Summer School Teachers

Fugees Academy, part of the non-profit organization, Fugees Family, Inc., is a tuition-free, community-based, public charter school designed to meet the needs of new American students through English language acquisition and foundational skill study, culturally relevant curriculum and wraparound supports, restorative practices, arts programming, and soccer participation.
Program Dates
- Staff Orientation - Thursday, June 15 – Friday, June 16
- Student Orientation - Tuesday, June 20
- Summer School - Wednesday, June 21 – Wednesday, July 26 (No classes Tuesday, July 4)
Core Teachers
- Deliver formal, engaging instruction in English and Math, designed to move students toward specific, individualized, and pre-identified goals
- Teach strong, discourse-based lessons aligned with the selected curriculum
- Collaborate with elective and specialist teachers to implement cross-curricular instructional plans where possible
- Maintain an orderly classroom where students are engaged in active individual and small group learning
- Give feedback on student work and track progress toward student goals; progress is marked by % of goal achieved
- Study and give feedback on 100% of student work each day
- Take attendance daily
- Communicate with parents
Elective Teachers
- Deliver instruction in arts-based, music-based, movement-based, or other creative elective courses aimed at language enrichment, enhancement, and/or intervention
- Collaborate with the core and specialist teachers to implement cross-curricular instruction where possible
- Maintain an orderly classroom where students are engaged in active individual and small group learning
- Give feedback on student work and grade students on a pass/fail basis
- Take attendance daily
Specialist Teacher (Title III)
- Support identified students in their English classes only to boost progress toward their individualized language growth goals
- Work with individuals and small groups as needed
- Collaborate with the core and elective teachers to schedule the most effective times for language support
- Maintain an orderly classroom where students are engaged in active individual and small group learning
- Track growth over the summer program through pre and post-assessments of students on the Title III roster.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience working in a camp environment is preferred
- Teaching experience is also preferred
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, yet strict and orderly classroom environment
- Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States required
