GENERAL PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise and drive the manufacturing activities of the COUS Silver Ink Manufacturing Laboratory.

The Silver Ink Manufacturing Supervisor ensures that all the lab scale manufacturing are performed within all EHS, quality, and corporate guidelines on a right-first-time basis. The position provides day-to-day supervision for manufacturing activities and priorities, ensures an appropriate training program is in place, up-to-date & administered, that necessary supplies and equipment are available for technical personnel, and that documentation within the department (i.e. SOP’s, process logs) is maintained. In addition, the Silver Ink Manufacturing Supervisor represents the group at cross-functional meetings to provide input to ensure production planning and successful transition of products and projects as relates to the lab scale manufacturing of silver inks.

The Silver Ink Manufacturing Supervisor accomplishes these goals while striving to create an atmosphere of involvement, continuous improvement, EHS, and right-first-time manufacture within the technician team.

This position is primarily weekday but due to potential future growth, after hours call out and support may be required if additional shifts are added to meet the needs of the business. In addition to the listed responsibilities, the position may be required to perform other duties upon request from management.

NATURE OF POSITION

Working under the general direction of the Technical Service Manager, the Silver Ink Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising a team of technicians to deliver the manufacturing of lab scale conductive silver aqueous ink. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining laboratory stocks and supplies when to achieve uninterrupted activities, and on time delivery of finished products into the supply chain. This includes ensuring maintenance and proper care of the assets required to produce the finished products, as well as all dedicated storage needed for handling of raw materials.

Fundamental working chemistry knowledge as applies to batch order of addition, monitoring of reactions, as well as filtration processes. Understanding of manufacturing process logs, specifications, and process tolerances as relates to generation of reproducible in specification finished products. Managing the precise pack off schedule and handover to the Warehouse department, including maintaining the proper chain of custody and cold storage and transport are required. The team may be required to carry out application testing of finished product using precise instrumentation to clear batches internally as needed.

Incumbent will be responsible for supervising one or more employees within the Silver Ink Manufacturing Group. Training on new equipment and as well as troubleshooting techniques will be the responsibility of the supervisor. Managing PTO, reviews, and the drafting of development plans will also be a part of the position. Delegation of tasks within the Silver Ink Manufacturing Group will be at the discretion of the Supervisor.

Documentation of SOP’s and training records is expected. Development and tracking of KPI’s and use of SAP is expected, as well as lab based sample submission and tracking will be a requirement. Close interaction with other functions within the Technical Service Group as relates to department objectives. Batch reviews and collaboration with Quality Assurance and Quality Control will also be necessary, as well as all other functional departments within COUS as needed to support the manufacturing requirements and schedule, as well as overall yearly site objectives.

This position has an EHS requirement. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that a safe workplace is maintained, will participate in regular safety audits and inspections, and will also periodically participate in EHS Committee lab tours. The Silver Ink Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and managing the waste stream generated by the manufacturing of aqueous silver inks and clean out of equipment. Ensuring safe handling of flammable raw materials and products is also a critical aspect of the job. Position also requires a leadership level of participation in the 5S, Continuous Improvements program and Near Miss reporting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS EXPECTED

Key deliverables for the position include the following:

· Managing safe production in compliance with site, company and regulatory requirements.

· Lead, manage and coach a team of Silver Ink technicians to deliver business objectives and targets.

· Monitor operational performance to maintain or improve quality, cost and productivity.

· Integrate Continuous Improvement and particularly 5S into normal operations practices. Ensure compliance and training.

· Generate and maintain robust Standard Operating Procedures.

· Promote, exemplify, and hold technician team accountable to following the company’s adopted Quality, Safety and Environmental management systems and procedures.

Safe manufacturing with no incidents or accidents

· Demonstrate and lead by example a high regard for your own personal safety and the safety of others.

· Ensure full compliance with all EHS procedures and policies to deliver compliance with regulatory and site requirements. Hazard study controls must be adequately addressed and compliance assured through usage of these procedures.

· Monitor and track process safety performance through key KPIs and responding to anything that requires action.

· Ensure EHS audit processes are carried out in line with expected schedule.

· Log and investigate any near misses or incidents, identifying root cause and opportunities for improvement working within established systems.

· Ensure compliance with ISO 14001.

Delivery of agreed volume

· Ensure sufficient level of resource is in place at all times to deliver required production

· Ensure technician team are fully trained and validated in all areas of lab scale operations. A defined training path must be put in place and executed consistently.

· Play an active role in business and supply chain planning via good communication to ensure delivery to meet customer demand.

· Identify and/or coordinate preventative maintenance activities with the group to maintain a safe, efficient operation, submit work orders as needed for repairs and maintenance. Ensure full compliance of all company policy guidelines, with emphasis on the LO/TO and HWP procedures in the plant to allow for safe maintenance of equipment.

· Participate in cross-functional meetings to address new product introduction and scale-up issues of products or projects introduced to the manufacturing department. Oversee the initial manufactures at the plant level and suggest changes / improvements as appropriate.

Manufacture right first time to correct quality

· Participate in the investigation of any quality near misses or failures, identifying root cause and opportunities for improvement. Ensure that follow up actions are completed and implemented in a timely fashion.

· Assist in review and investigation of technical issues, contributing where possible to improve overall performance of processes and plant.

· Manufacture to high standards to ensure customer product requirements are achieved and Customer Satisfaction is maintained.

· Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and all site QA policies.

· Implement and maintain compliance with GMP manufacturing policies as needed.

Manufacture to agreed cost

· Review material and equipment efficiencies to consistently achieve targets and investigate any manufacturing cost variance outside agreed accepted range.

· Monitor overall utilization of unit equipment, reporting detail of issues to key functions for action.

· Understand key manufacturing costs to help stay within Cost Center budgets.

· Actively identify opportunities to improve lab scale performance, reduce waste or reduce costs. Encourage participation in the CI program.

· Maintain accurate consumptions of materials through use of SAP.

Manage Silver Ink Technician Team

· Supervising, leading, coaching and developing the technician team.

· Foster teamwork as well as individual accountability

· Maintain fair and firm application of FUJIFILM Imaging Colorants, Inc. policies, procedures, and management directives.

· Provide input for development goals and training opportunities for all reporting staff. Responsible for Performance Appraisals and development of Performance Improvement Plans as needed working within the HR system.

EVALUATION FACTORS

Essential

· BS Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

· >5yrs manufacturing, engineering, or lab scale manufacturing experience preferably within a chemical environment

· Strong understanding of EHS requirements associated with chemical manufacturing

· Proven people management and leadership experience

· Experience using Risk Assessment tools and Standard Work Processes along with Operational Discipline Principles

· Solid basis of knowledge in Continuous Improvement tools and problem solving

· Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills are required, as well as the ability to foster a team approach to work objectives and continuous improvement

· Be able to lead and motivate team and prioritize various responsibilities

· Effectively manage conflict, be continuously alert, proactive and capable of responding to any problems that occur within the range of responsibility. This includes prompt & effective action in abnormal situations to minimize product loss or personal injury.

· Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills

· Use of MS Office and other computer tools for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and other computer based tasks

· Familiarity with laboratory information management software

Desirable

· Experience of supply chain planning, KPI’s and Operational Excellence

· Use of SAP

· Understanding of Quality Systems and ISO registrations

· Batch production experience

· Process control and HMI usage familiarity

Problem Solving

The job consists of management of the manufacturing of detailed lab scale ink batches and measurements. It also includes tabulation and correlation of data, calculations involving raw data, preparation of charts and graphs, and making precise technical recommendations to various stakeholders.

Accountability

Site/Business required training. Responsible for the appropriate handling of any hazardous/non hazardous waste generated in the lab. Participate in Site EHS tours whenever requested.

Compliance with all Corporate Governance Guidelines within personal activities.

Overall compliance with Corporate and Government EHS Regulations with pro-active participation and following of the COUS EHS program.
