What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietician position at Fuller Hospital?

Fuller Hospital and Pembroke Hospital are looking for a part-time Dietician (24hrs/wk). This position requires working/commuting between both MA locations.

JOB PURPOSE:

Provides nutrition care of inpatients and out patients through the use of assessment and implementation of nutrition care, or physician’s orders. Instructs individuals and/or groups on normal and/or therapeutic nutrition. Provides resources for nutrition information. Implements procedures that support or attain departmental goals and objectives.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree with a major in food nutrition. Is currently registered or eligible for registration with the American Dietetic Association. Must be able to function in the job without additional training other than general orientation and orientation to the job. Command of the English language sufficient to avoid safety risk. Licensed by the State of Massachusetts

Experience: One year successful experience as clinical dietitian preferred. Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in all aspects of normal and therapeutic nutrition and its applications. Must possess emotional resources to maintain good working interpersonal relationships and be able to relate to acutely ill patients.

Technical Skills: Demonstrates excellent communications and problem-resolution skills. Clear written and verbal communication skills required. Strong organizational skills and confidentiality are required. Ability to read, write and understand English so that dietary consults can be written and understood by medical staff.

Age and Disability: Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. Provides care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Other: Ability to use calculator and computer as required. Assist Manager of Food Service in developing menus that meet the nutritional needs of the population.

Contacts: Reports to the Manager of Food Service. Works closely with nurses, physicians, patients, patient’s relatives, other dietitians, and diet office support staff, food production leadership, staff and other department personnel. Works with community residents, outpatients, dietitians and other professionals.

Environmental Demands: Physical surroundings are pleasant and comfortable with limited exposure to injury or other hazards.

Essential Physical/Mental Demands:

Manual Dexterity Required: Ability to write patient assessment. Ability to fill out diet orders as needed. Ability to move safely to all units for assessments and consults.
