Functional Pathways is seeking a Payroll Specialist candidate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who knows how to solve effectively and possesses a solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software. This Full-Time Payroll Specialist opportunity is located at our corporate office in Knoxville, TN, and comes with a full benefits package.
The Payroll Specialist assists the Payroll Team in ensuring accurate and timely multi-state payroll processing for the entire organization. This position involves access to confidential information and requires discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines on a consistent basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide administrative support to the payroll team and provide payroll support to our employee population.
2. Assist in compiling employee time, production, and payroll data reports from designated systems and other records.
3. Assist in verifying hours worked and pay adjustments, and post information onto the designated system.
4. Assist in preparing miscellaneous timekeeping, and financial and operational reports upon request.
5. Assist in audits and correcting payroll information prior to transmission.
6. Assist in recording employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations, to maintain and update payroll records.
7. Provide excellent customer service, both internal and external.
8. Assist in answering incoming telephone calls and/or emails and routing appropriately.
9. Act as a liaison regarding employee paperwork and other payroll-related issues with Human Resources to streamline processes.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 1-year experience working in a payroll environment
- Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws including payroll, taxes, withholding, deductions, and garnishments.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to review, analyze and interpret information as well as trouble-shoot to solve problems
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize several tasks without compromising the quality of work or mission deadlines
- Knowledge of Business English and ability to communicate patiently and professionally with both internal and external customers, both orally and in writing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (desired – not required)
- Proficient with payroll software. Knowledge of UltiPro/UKG is a plus.
