What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder position at Future Aviation?

Future Aviation, Inc., a HEICO Corporation (NYSE: HEI) Repair Group facility, located in Southwest Florida, is the largest independent regional airline component MRO facility in the industry. We are currently seeking a Welder to use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs a variety of welding processes such as hellarc, gas, arc, brazing, silver soldering, soft soldering and the like on a limited variety of materials such as stainless, aluminum, steel, copper, brass, exotics or others.
  • Performs layout operation, develops fixtures on one-of-a-kind units, and selects optimum welding processes.
  • Inspects work upon completion.
  • May perform related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling notching template making.
  • Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devises and equipment.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Welding schooling required or minimum two years on the job experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use basic shop math. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, squat, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The Team Member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
