FUTURES BARISTA/JOB COACH JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Position: Barista
Reports to: Social Enterprise Manager
Location: Hospital for Special Care, New Britain, CT
Qualifications:
- Experience in special education, counseling, youth work, or human services a plus.
- Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management
- Barista and cafe experience preferred
- Familiarity w/ServSafe Food Safety principles, possession of ServSafe Food Handler certificate, or ability to successfully complete ServSafe training program.
- Must have ability to multitask.
- Must possess an eye for detail.
- Must be dependable
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Minimal lifting of culinary supplies or related equipment routinely required. Must be able to communicate clearly and possess the ability to meet multiple job demands in a busy environment. May be required to lift and/or restrain consumers or may be exposed to risk or injury from students with physically aggressive behavior.
Schedule: Part Time Hourly
Weekdays either 6AM-1PM or 11AM-5PM.
Job Goal: To support the activities of the Futures’ Cafe under the direct supervision of the Social Enterprise Manager at Futures. This support will include working with and supervising consumers/students at the Cafe at Futures.
Job responsibilities may include:
- Fulfilling customer orders while paying attention to details (customer preferences, dairy and sugar ratios)
- Assisting clients to learn proper skills required to operate a cafe
- Behavior management of clients
- Supervision of clients
- Lifting and/or restraining clients
- Take orders
- Serve beverages and prepared foods.
- Bake variety of pre-made rolls/biscuits/scones/cookies
- Assist with the making of breakfast sandwiches/wraps.
- Bake/Prep Daily lunch specials and heat soups.
- Keeping all cafe areas clean.

Duties:
1. Works effectively with and maintains positive relationships with families, funding source personnel, employers, and co-workers.
2. Follows consumer Individual Plans and evaluation guidelines.
3. Analyzes job requirements, sequences daily tasks, observes and records data, and provides training for The Kitchen at Futures using appropriate instructional interventions.
4. Alerts case managers and supervisor to needs/concerns of consumers.
5. Completes assigned paperwork.
6. Communicates with all appropriate parties in a timely manner.
7. Recognizes and maintains a safe and healthy environment by following Federal and State health code regulations.
8. Displays basic knife skills, or the ability to learn basic knife skills / teach and model safe knife protocol.
9. Performs Café related business transactions
10. Maintains clean working conditions
11. Performs Café related assembly of food and beverage items
12. Performs any other delegated responsibilities assigned by the Director/Executive Chef of The Kitchen at Futures
