Mount Vernon, Indiana is located about 20 miles west of Evansville, along the Ohio River. The GAF site in Mount Vernon was founded in 1973 and produces a wide variety of products, including both residential and commercial roofing materials. Key Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Production Manager you will have ownership for the manufacturing of company products, specifically residential asphalt shingles, consistent with required quality standards, safe work practices, effective housekeeping and compliance with personnel policies. The Production Manager manages the production line, applying continuous improvement principles and methods and promoting participation related management techniques.
Manage daily production operations in partnership with the production teams to maximize production efficiency including volume or product produced, run rates, raw material utilization, yield loss, downtime, and slowdown while producing high quality product in a safe manner. Ensure that standards and expectations are in place, routinely communicated, clearly understood and consistently met.
Provide formal objectives and measurements for plant personnel and is involved in machine troubleshooting, efficiency studies and capital improvements.
Ensure that production crews are well trained, involved and committed to meeting production, quality, and safety requirements. Assure that equipment and machinery complies with all outside regulatory agency requirements and that employees are adequately protected against safety hazards and that the plant is operated within environmental permit requirements.
Meet daily production schedule and requirements. Work jointly with logistics and purchasing to ensure appropriate inventory mix is available, while balancing both production efficiency and raw material demands.
Develop, implement and track compliance to production department expense budgets. Control key cost elements to ensure achievement to ensure achievement of budget spending goals. Guide production supervision to achieve a balance between production needs, machine reliability and overall repair cost.
Provide leadership and direction to the production department. Responsible for maintaining an environment for good employee relations to prevent any union organizing attempts. Work closely with human resources and supervisors to ensure appropriate staffing is maintained. Participate in the hiring process to ensure we staff motivated team members. Ability to effectively communicate the Bonus Plan to all employees to maximize participation and impact on performance.
Knowledge and Skills:
Skilled in problem identification/resolution
Understanding of basic statistics and use within the operational environment.
Planning and organizational skills including ability to manage multiple priorities
Results oriented, high energy, credible, honest, self-motivated
Excellent communications skills: written, verbal and listening
Coaching skills to include: demonstrating procedures, leading by example and persuading others
Familiarity with Safety activities including root cause investigations, safe behavior observations, team activities, industrial hygiene, and OSHA compliance
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical preferred
Minimum four years of experience in manufacturing management with project management experience.
Demonstrated experience in process and quality improvements, implementing strategy for production operations, hiring/training/coaching employees and performance management.
Additional experience in a high volume manufacturing operation, preferably continuous web process.
Candidate must possess basic computer skills, including experience with email systems. Experience with Google suites a plus.
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems a plus
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on open grating on elevated surfaces
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing
Must be able to communicate effectively using phones and radios
