Summary
The crew tech is a multicraft professional responsible for maintaining and increasing reliability on plant equipment. This individual will bring strong technical skills in the electrical, mechanical fields as well as automated controls. This team member will compliment the team with their frontline leadership as well as their ability to work together to successfully and safely meet goals. The crew tech will have a variety of responsibilities including but not limited to inspections, equipment repairs, and systems maintenance.
Essential Duties
- Ability to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot stationary industrial machinery, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment in a manufacturing setting with minimal to no supervision and assistance.
- Perform preventative maintenance
- Performs troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Installs and/or replaces new or reconditioned repair parts
- Tests equipment for proper operation
- Operates lifting devices
- Requires understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic circuits/drawings/prints
- Performs cutting and welding procedures
- Informs supervisor of progress, problems, and concerns related to job assignments, plant condition, equipment status, and safety conditions
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance records while completing all required written and electronic documentation
- Perform work duties with little to no supervision
- Work as a collaborative team member with other maintenance technicians, controls specialists and engineers to diagnose, maintain and repair plant equipment
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
Physical Demands
Environment, Health, and Safety
- Understand and abide by all GAF Safety Rules and Policies at all times
- Read and understand all Safe Job Procedures in applicable SOPs and JSAs.
- Demonstrate complete understanding of LOTO as related to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and other industrial equipment
- Demonstrate caution and proper body mechanics when physically moving or positioning items
- Know and wear appropriate PPE for job related tasks
- Safely operate grinders, sanders, drill press, hand tools and other equipment associated with mechanical or electrical job duties
- Possess millwright industrial mechanic skills including the following: conveyor maintenance, drive component installation and maintenance, precision alignment, hydraulic and pneumatics, lubrication, etc.
- Able to dismantle and make necessary repairs to such equipment as chains, sprockets, bearing couple alignment, or general maintenance repair.
- Conceptually able to follow and understand mechanical sketches and understand information contained in equipment manuals.
- Understanding and operation of electrical test equipment-ohmmeter, amp probe, oscilloscope, frequency generator,
- Understanding of transformers, AC and DC motors, wiring and insulation, motor starters, relays, contactors, thermal overloads, clutches/brakes and photoelectric circuits
- Understanding of the operation of relays, modulating controls and other industrial control devices
- Understanding of PLCs and associated components
- High School Diploma or GED
- External candidate
- A graduate in a recognized industrial type trade from a two year technical college (i.e. electrical, machinist, welding, millwright, pipe fitting, etc.)
- 3-5 years hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing department
- Must pass Crew Tech I test
- Schedule is 7A-3P Monday - Friday while unassigned. When Crew openings arise, schedule will shift to 12 hours, 7 days on, 7 days off.
