Job Summary:
Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools is looking for an inspiring leader with a sound background in special education and school leadership and the vision to lead Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools towards developing an environment where all students can reach their fullest potential. This school leader will provide effective education leadership for special education students and staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters Degree and Full Approval in at least one area of special education
- A valid Michigan Educational Certificate with an endorsement in one or more areas of special education
- Full or Temporary Approval as a Special Education Supervisor or Director; or eligible to obtain approval
- Three to five years successful educational experience
- Knowledge of Federal and State of Michigan special education laws, rules and regulations
- Able to assess and document student progress
- Excellent communication skills
Desired Characteristics:
- Special Education Supervisor experience preferred
- Experience in providing instructional leadership and educational best practices
- Possess strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks
- Demonstrate a strong ability to be decisive
- Demonstrate a strong sense of honesty and integrity
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
- Experience in working within a Professional Learning Community
- Work well with staff and be skilled in having "courageous conversations" to achieve high levels of accountability
- Experience with early childhood programming and transitions
- Experience with developing behavior intervention plans
Duties:
- Supervise the overall special education program and services for the district
- Collaborate with principals and special education staff regarding development and implementation of special education and general education curriculum, instruction, and assessment and evidence based practices for students receiving special education services
- Assess the need for special education staff, transportation, equipment, services, outside evaluation, and student placement special education services
- Collaborate with principals and teachers in problem solving situations with student including special education processes and challenges
- Implement policy and procedure changes from the Board or State and Federal level within Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools
- Manage grants related to special education programs and services
- Implement LEA Continuous Improvement Monitoring System (CIMS) by monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEP) for compliance, tracking IEP implementation, and coordinate CIMS process with KRESA Eastern Service Area
- Serve as district representative at IEP team meetings
- Provide leadership and direction regarding conflict resolution for staff, parents, and students
- Responsible for performance evaluations of special education staff
- Attend and participate in building and district meetings and workshops and conferences that contribute to overall student achievement, as appropriate
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of his/her designee
