Residential Counselor I | GARP

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To complete an adult comprehensive assessment, individual action plans, group progress notes, weekly progress notes, discharge summary, and aftercare planning
• To conduct intake interviews, administer and complete the MIS forms and adhere to funding sources requirements.
• To provide weekly individual counseling and also acts as a group facilitator in regularly scheduled sessions which include peer discussion, didactic substance abuse seminars, and other therapy groups conducted on the premises.
• To maintain direct supportive contact with residents to continually assess their individual needs, especially during stressful and crisis situations.
• To provide advocacy/case management services whenever appropriate for each resident.
• To develop and maintain a working relationship and knowledge of other social service agencies in the community.
• To develop strong, supportive relationships with the clients.
• To interact with clients in order to assess needs, provide information, discuss problems, set limits, and encourage growth and development.
• To transport clients in matters related to service delivery.
• To assist with client discharge plans.
• To maintain updated clinical notes and reporting in accordance with established record-keeping procedures.
• To participate in all case consultation meetings, staff meetings, and case conferences.
• To administer drug/alcohol screens to residents when considered clinically appropriate.
• To provide an orientation of services to prospective clients, family members, and community interest groups.
• To arrange and provide patient transportation to outside appointments when public transportation is not available or recommended.
• To participate in training programs (both external and internal), regularly research materials relative to chemical abuse, mental illness, and treatment approaches.

• High School/GED 2 yrs experience
• Associates Degree 2yrs experience
• Experience providing substance abuse services
• Must have valid driver’s license
• Must have availability of an automobile to transport clients or perform other supportive services as necessary
