Provide services as a Data Analyst in support of the overall functions of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH).


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have a strong understanding of descriptive epidemiology, data management, and evaluation methodology within the field of minority health and health disparities research as evidenced by education, training, and contributions to the scientific literature.
  • Closely collaborate with principal investigator and laboratory members on research projects and the analyzing of datasets.
  • Conduct data collection/entry, management, cleaning, and manipulation activities as well as statistical analyses, preferably using SAS, for current population health research using existing NIH and publicly available datasets.
  • Identify the appropriate statistical method(s) to assess research questions and build statistical models for research projects.
  • Provide interpretation of statistical results for the principal investigator and laboratory members.
  • Contribute statistical expertise to the design and analytic plans of research proposals and ongoing research projects.
  • Familiarize themselves with existing datasets and provide analytic-related consultation to the principal investigator and laboratory members.
  • Prepare and/or update data tables and figures, methods sections of manuscripts, reports, and other documents for presentation and/or publication.
  • Manage laboratory repositories and record keeping systems for the storage, tracking, internal control, and retrieval of information, documentation, and datasets.
  • Gather, organize, maintain, and archive data, documentation, information, and records manually, digitally, and through computer-based applications systematically (alphabetically, chronologically, by subject, etc.).
  • Manage correspondence and communicate laboratory information to appropriate parties as required.
  • Attend all lab meetings, lab check ins, and other research-related meetings as requested by the principal investigator and lab manager.
  • Report, either verbally and/or in writing, on the progress of their work each week and submit summaries of research activity to the principal investigator and lab manager.
  • Work with NIH administrators, technicians, contractors, and other staff to address requests and problems related to laboratory operations and equipment as well as serve as a liaison with service providers and vendors.
  • Work products and documents related to assigned research projects; supporting and ensuring that all actions are completed; reviewing requests/requirements/actions.
  • Work products and documents related to designing, consulting, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting all analyses of data; providing up-to-date, real-time data analysis; identifying methodologies; developing and contributing to projects.

  • Work products and documents related to providing support to the principal investigator and laboratory members
  • Work products and documents related to laboratory repositories and record keeping systems; preparing data tables and figures, manuscripts and reports, and other documents; gathering, organizing, maintaining, and archiving data, documentation, and information, and records

Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters or doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Public Health Science, Social Psychology, Biostatistics, or a closely related field; research experience is preferred but not required

  • Applicants with publications in peer-reviewed journals are desired, but at least one submitted scientific manuscript is required
  • Expertise in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) as well as expertise in at least one statistical software, preferably SAS.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
