Provide services as a Researcher in support of the overall functions of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Performs laboratory experiments and related data analysis in support of research program and projects. Maintains clear and accurate records of laboratory work in defined notebooks and converts those records to electronic records as appropriate.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret experimental techniques and procedures; prepare reports on data results.
  • Conduct research including planning, and conducting experiments and data analysis in the Laboratory Collaborate with investigators to carry out research testing in the clinical research laboratory according to written standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform experiments as listed in analysis plan.
  • Perform both routine and specialized laboratory procedures of moderate to high complexity.
  • Will assist with contributing toward advancing laboratory goals and performing experiments. 1
  • Conduct data storage, and record keeping.
  • Perform data retrieval and entry using multiple IT systems. Record and interpret experimental data.
  • Collect and analyze data; organize spreadsheets; prepare graphs, reports, summaries and illustrations for use and tracking of protocol activity.
  • Record research findings daily using a digitized method. 2
  • Helping collect data and more of data analysis information-related duties.
  • This TO does not require upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment
  • Designated program officials will be ordering laboratory supplies for this group. This is not a requirement of this TO.
  • Attend laboratory meetings; present findings to staff.
  • Draft and produce reports, briefings and other materials for discussion with staff.
  • Attend conferences and seminars; read literature to remain current in related information. Present findings describing outcomes of successful projects at meetings and conferences.
  • This TO requires more of a support-natured presence that would allow the contractors data analysis contributions only. 3
  • Local scientific meetings will be supported by this task order
  • Collaborate with investigators to carry out research testing in the clinical research laboratory according to written standard operating procedures (SOPs). 4
  • Prepare a draft written description of the analysis procedures, the findings, the limitations and the proposal for follow- up experiments.
  • Perform fundamental procedures required for research projects.
  • This TO does not require any of the tasks/duties listed above.
  • Interact with administrative staff on management and procurement issues.
  • Attend laboratory meetings; present findings to staff. Prepare charts and figures for presentations and reports. Prepare and present posters at scientific meetings.
  • Draft and produce reports, briefings and other materials for discussion with staff.
  • Prepare abstracts and manuscripts based on study data and experimental findings to be presented at scientific meetings and/or publication in scientific journals.
  • Attend conferences and seminars; read literature to remain current in related information.
  • Review and discuss the results of experiments; propose and discuss possible new experiments.
  • Interact with scientists from other organizations or institutions involved in similar or related research projects. Collaborate with staff on planning and executing plans for the development of new research protocols and tools. 5
  • Use the computer to cross reference design and repeat experiments and research before preparing findings for publication.
  • Provide training in laboratory experiments to post-doctoral fellows and technicians.
  • Interact with students, post-doctoral fellows and non-doctoral research technicians on experimental design and laboratory-based methodologies.
  • Provide training to students and other personnel in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures, techniques, etc.
  • Meet with lab members to present updates - Ad-Hoc
  • Operates a variety of laboratory equipment - Ad-Hoc
  • Aids in the preparation of manuscripts - Ad-Hoc

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science and Biopsychology.
  • IRB related training.
  • Experience with PowerPoint, fMRI analysis software which may include MATLAB and Python programs, and Outlook.
  • Experience in helping collect data for MRI usage when running study protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
