OVERVIEW:
The Product Engineering Manager will be responsible for a wide range of engineering activities including new product development, maintaining existing products and R&D. The Product Engineering Manager will work with outsourced and supplier manufacturing and engineering resources.
You will work with Product Management to ensure alignment on technical specifications. Your responsibilities include finalizing detailed technical specifications, overseeing prototype creation, and coordinating product testing for quality assurance. Analyzing and optimizing product designs for functionality, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability are essential aspects of the role. Engaging with third-party manufacturers and ensuring regulatory compliance are critical components. The position also involves driving continuous improvement initiatives in the entire new product development process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering:
Drive effectiveness and efficiency in all engineering disciplines.
Develop, document, and maintain project organization, planning, and execution.
Manage project tasks from ideation to end-user.
Collaboration:
Partner with product managers to comprehend design criteria and cost targets.
Work with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, QA) to align on technical specifications.
Technical Specifications:
Develop detailed technical specifications for new/existing products.
Provide comprehensive documentation for third-party manufacturers to ensure accurate production.
Prototype and Testing:
Oversee prototype creation for design validation and engineering feasibility.
Coordinate product testing to ensure quality and safety standards adherence.
Design Optimization:
Analyze and optimize product designs for functionality, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
Identify opportunities for innovation and improvements.
Supplier Collaboration:
Liaise with third-party manufacturers to address technical queries and resolve challenges.
Conduct regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay updated on industry regulations and standards.
Work with regulatory bodies to obtain necessary certifications.
Continuous Improvement:
Participate in initiatives to enhance engineering processes and product development efficiency.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in product engineering, preferably in the consumer goods industry.
Travel to domestic and international suppliers as needed.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Proven track record of successfully independently bringing products from concept to production using Product Briefs and Project Timelines.
Time management and organizational skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
PC skills including Word, Excel, Access, and data acquisition software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Proven ability to design for manufacturability
Proven ability to design and redesign product to increase shipping efficiencies
Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with cross-functional teams.
