Overview
We are looking for a Team Leader - Aviation Human Factors Design Engineering to join our Aviation Human Factors team at our headquarters in the Kansas City area.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a full-time Team Leader - Aviation Human Factors Design Engineering to lead our visionary team that plays an integral part of our product development, focusing on general aviation, business aviation, commercial aviation military and unmanned/optionally piloted vehicles. In this role you'll lead a team of Aviation Human Factors Engineers that design our cutting-edge flight decks, as well influence the look-and-feel of our other aviation products such as aviator watches and our software-as-a-service offerings such as FlyGarmin.com, FltPlan.com and our Garmin Pilot mobile applications.
Essential Functions:
- Leads a team of Aviation Human Factors Design Engineers with diverse capability levels in the definition and documentation of technical product roadmaps involving pilot interfaces, defining new features including coordination of stakeholder input, technical research, competitive analysis, writing system design/description documentation and creating associate software change requests.
- Promotes and leads efforts to ensure consistency using Garmin aviation user interface guidelines, leading user interface reviews, providing UI training to software engineers and soliciting feedback to improve guidelines as needed
- Directly supervises Human Factors team members with daily observation, assuring appropriate attendance and providing assistance to team members
- Works with Human Resources to address employee relations issues as needed including writing and conducting annual performance evaluations
- Interviews, hires, and trains new associates as directed by engineering management
- Ensures the team meets overall goals in accordance with the product development plan or market requirements and ensure project milestones are met
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Human Factors, Math or Physics from a four-year college or university
- 5 years of experience in a technical role performing duties similar to the functions of this team OR a minimum of 10 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
- Demonstrates advanced working knowledge of aviation, avionics, and industry standards, guidance material, and regulations
- Demonstrates expert level knowledge of Garmin Integrated Flight Decks and advanced proficient knowledge of all Garmin aviation products
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge of aviation industry and competition
- Strong working knowledge of aviation human factors and associated guidance and regulatory material
Desired Qualifications:
- Extensive systems experience with aviation products
- Pilot’s license (Private, Instrument or Commercial rating)
