GC4 is offering a temporary sign-on bonus of $500 for all new hires. The sign-on bonus shall be paid upon completion of the first pay period.
JOB FOCUS
Assistant Teachers are responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for all children in attendance at GC4. The job requires the interaction with children and is responsible for supervising meals, sleeping, bathroom needs and educational needs of the children in their classrooms. It is their responsibility to follow all Center policies and guidelines outlined by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS).
JOB TASKS
Operational Duties:
· Maintain an environment that show’s our passionate love for God.
· Possess a true commitment to the social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative development of the children.
· Maintain child/staff ratio ensuring that children are always supervised and notifying the on-site supervisor of changes when they occur.
· Assist in meal time, including serving and teaching good personal eating habits.
· Assist in providing opportunities for sleep and rest.
· Assist children in bathroom activities, including dressing children and changing diapers, encouraging and teaching healthy habits.
· Insure a safe environment for all children, including intervening in conflicts between children.
· Assist and/or lead in the cleaning and maintaining of all program equipment, appliances and Center facilities per policies and cleaning check lists.
· If scheduled, assist in opening and closing the center which may including preparing, organizing and tidying rooms at the beginning and end of the day.
· Encourage the good behavior of children by utilizing discipline per Center policies.
Teaching Duties:
· Assist in the teaching of Christian curriculum which include weekly Bible verses, guest teachers, Christian songs and prayer.
Training & Orientation:
· Obtain all DHS required training and ensure it is current per the State guidelines.
· Attend orientation, staff meeting and in-service days as requested.
· Participates in and fully understands all emergency drills and environmental safety activities.
Administrative Duties:
· Maintain daily records including meal sheets, sign in/out sheets, medical sheets, incident reports, infant communication logs, etc.
· Report evidence of suspected abuse/neglect to DHS and Director.
Family Relationship Duties:
· If needed, confer with parents to discuss the development of their enrolled children, communicating with families as the arrive and depart for the day.
· Establish relationships with individual children and families and be responsive to requests and comments.
· Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to the parents’ or guardians’ attention.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
· Must be at least 16 years of age. If under 18 years of age, the staff shall be under the direct supervision of an adult.
· Must have knowledge of child development and knowledge of acceptable health and safety practices.
· Must have an ability to adapt to the constantly changing emotional and physical care needs of children.
· Possess good oral communication skills.
· Must be able to meet and maintain certification for CPR and First Aid and participate in required Center trainings.
· Must conduct themselves with Christian ethics.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Assistant Teachers may be asked to do the following physical activities, or others, within the scope of this job description: sitting in chairs and on the floor, standing, walking, lifting from 5 to 50 pounds, twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, among others.
WORK ENVIORNMENT
This job operates in a child care environment. The position will interact with children in early learning classrooms daily and will include time spent outdoors. Occasionally the position will assist in field trips.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time or full-time position, as agreed upon with the Director. Assistant Teachers will be scheduled the week prior. Hours vary and are flexible with shifts being scheduled the week prior. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 5:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
