The Job Opportunity:
This individual is responsible for all electrical design activities. This includes the integration of hardware and firmware as functioning embedded systems. The Director improves on and maintains Electrical Engineering design methodologies and tools. The Director plays a key role with other leaders to ensure that the complete product is optimally designed as a system. As a member of a leadership team, there is a shared responsibility with the embedded software, mechanical engineering, manufacturing process, and application software teams to develop entire products. The Director ensures, working together with these other technical leaders, that the system design methodology is consistent. The Director also plays a role in improving design methodologies.
The Job Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Participate as an active development team member on all projects. Ensure solid design methodologies are followed. Develop the design culture in the EE group to improve quality and consistency in design.
- Develop technical leaders: Identify technical team members with leadership potential and provide for them the necessary mentoring, training, and leadership opportunities necessary for them to be able to lead complex technical projects.
- Technical management: As appropriate, because of strategic importance or technical complexity, act as the technical manager on a specific project. This responsibility includes being the lead system engineer for the project, developing and managing the technical schedule, as well as collaborating with the technical lead, operations team, and commercial team.
- Resource Management: Determine resource needs by quarter for the EE team as input to the regular budget cycle. On a regular basis, manage the changing resource demand across multiple projects. Provide new hire proposals as resource demand increases.
- Project Budget: Support direct reports that are involved in active budget management on projects. May be responsible for directly managing project budget on a project.
- Technology Development: Participate in the analysis of new technologies as they may apply to proposed future product development. Contribute new technologies or processes that may be of future or current value.
- Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
- Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
- Responsible for hiring and retaining a diverse, highly qualified staff and for providing career coaching, growth, and personal development.
- Accountable for the staff development; critiques, instructs, mentors, evaluates, and coaches.
- Accountable for the performance of subordinates and work output of managed subcontractors.
- Maintains a safe work environment and a strong customer focus.
- Models optimum leadership competencies to inspire an energized, empowered and accountable workforce.
- Models ethical behavior, presents a favorable community image and actualizes the company Guiding Principles and values.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- 3 direct reports: Electrical and Product Engineering Managers
- Approximately 30 indirect reports
- Indirectly manage local and offshore engineering contractors
- Identify and qualify engineering contractors as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressively more responsible work experience in a high-technology manufacturing environment
- Minimum 4 years of demonstrated experience at a supervisory/managerial level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in embedded systems design, with a specialty in analog and RF design, preferred. At least analog design with exposure to RF (Current knowledge and experience)
- Experience with small signal and low noise measurement circuitry (nA range)
- Experience with ultra-low power embedded systems.
- Advanced PCB processes and miniaturization experience (Flex circuitry, Chip on flex, etc)
- Experience with ASIC development, especially ASICs with Analog components.
- The ability to map task interdependencies, prioritize such tasks, meet deadlines, and develop, monitor, and live within budgets as well as the demonstrated ability to forecast major milestones.
- Must be skilled at delegation, follow-up, and team building.
- Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model is preferred.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback.
- Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
- Hands-on director: required to solve complex hardware and systems problems.
- Ability to travel, including internationally.
Salary : $240,000 - $265,000
