JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW
This Grants Accountant is responsible for the clerical functions required to ensure accurate and smooth functioning of the Grants Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to preparation of invoices, correspondence, preparation of internal financial reports, preparation of reports, communication with a variety of funding/regulating agencies. Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies, and procedures, but employees are expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in their duties. This position is a hands-on accounting role that requires familiarity with many aspects of post-award management. This role will also be responsible for supporting the financial month end process. Additionally, they will be responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate reporting.
Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review financial transactions to ensure adherence to GAAP, FASB, Uniform Guidance.
- Support both the financial month end process and annual audits.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual grant invoices and reports.
- Monitor budgets, track actual expenditures throughout the year, and coordinate with programmatic staff to ensure the maximum use of contract funds.
- Maintain financial records of all grant funds consistent with audit standards.
- Assist in the preparation and reporting of various state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Work with development staff and programmatic staff to prepare budget-related materials and supporting documentation required for submission with government grant proposals, renewals, budget modifications, etc.
- Monitor grant compliance with internal policies and any other applicable grant regulations.
- Assist in the creation, reporting and general requirements of funding agencies for new acquisitions and projects.
- Establishes and maintains working relationships with internal and external partners.
- Maintains the confidentiality of financial information and clinical information.
- All other duties, assignments, and special projects assigned by Supervisor.
- Works closely with Supervisor to meet internal and external deadlines.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of grant agreements, coordination, and compliance.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and nonprofit budgeting.
- Anticipate and proactively troubleshoot and problem-solve issues related to their role.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large financial data sets.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office products required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be organized and have a high level of attention to detail.
- The successful candidate must be customer-service oriented, able to work independently, exercise sound judgment, anticipate and proactively troubleshoot and problem-solve issues related to their role.
- They must have the ability to manage detailed work and projects, possess strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and be approachable.
- Must demonstrate ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, outside agencies and community resources, and vendors.
- Ability to maintain all information in a confidential manner
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education/Training:
- The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a similar setting, with a bachelor's degree in accounting or related experience.
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting.
- Knowledge of Microsoft suite
Experience:
- Non-profit experience preferred
