Essential Responsibilities:
As a Lead Specialist – Microscopy, you will:
- Work closely with research staff to plan and execute characterization for a variety of projects that may include metals, high temperature alloys, ceramics, thermal/environmental barrier coatings, ceramic matrix composites and phosphor materials.
- Analyze metallography samples using various scanning electron microscopy imaging methods including SE and BSE.
- Perform EDS to qualitatively assess elemental chemistry.
- Grow expertise in quantitative EDS while taking initiative to apply standards to improve outcomes.
- Deliver high quality analytical results.
- Develop imagining routines and methods optimized for different materials and project needs.
- Collaborate and effectively communicate with GE businesses and GE researchers to provide written reports and verbal presentations describing methods, analytical data, and observations.
- Collaborate with the larger team of experts using other characterization techniques to provide solutions for GE businesses.
- Help GE businesses establish standard lab operating procedures when called upon.
- Work closely with research staff to plan and execute characterization for a variety of projects that may include metals, high temperature alloys, ceramics, thermal/environmental barrier coatings, ceramic matrix composites and phosphor materials.
- Maintain and operate multiple pieces of equipment necessary to conduct experiments.
- Reduce data to useful formats using appropriate mathematical techniques and software tools
- Maintain accurate records of the work performed and other records required by the projects.
- Share project progress through oral presentations, written reports.
- Foster a multidisciplinary and inclusive team environment.
- Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in material science, physics, geology, or materials engineering, or related scientific discipline or an Associate degree in material science, physics, or materials engineering, or related scientific discipline with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in electron microscopy.
- Demonstrated ability in advanced characterization techniques, scanning electron microscopy, and optical imaging.
- Excellent attention to detail and thorough understanding of quality imaging.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products like Excel and PowerPoint.
- Handle multiple projects and stay on schedule for project deliverables.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills in a global team environment.
- Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
- Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.
