What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Engineer - IT Service Management position at GEICO?
GEICO Tech is seeking a highly qualified individual to support our service management transformation. The selected individual should have in-depth experience with open-source platform development. This is a hands-on role and will require in depth understanding of the principal engineer must have domain and expert technical knowledge. Selected individual will be responsible for designing and developing solutions to complex problems and perform overall system management and integration functions.
Responsibilities
- Develop relationships with internal stakeholders to understand our users' visions and how the service management platform can assist with their digital transformation journey.
- Provide technical leadership for planning, designing, developing, upgrading, installing, testing, implementing, and maintaining the service management platform
- Create solution options that align with business mission, goals, and objectives
- Evaluate service management platform performance, provide advanced technical support for the service management platform by debugging platform problems, and make recommendations for resolution.
- Perform advanced technical development work for integration with the service management platform
- Provide technical expertise related to CMDB, to include but not limited to, discovery, infrastructure design and deployment, CI data governance.
- Maintain relationships between business services and configuration items in CMDB
- Provide customization and configuration of, but not limited to, workflow administration, custom scripting, third party integrations, report setup and development, etc.
- Provide subject matter expertise and industry best practices
- Provide architecture and technical direction for design, development and implementation of the service management platform.
- Define and estimate sprints for Agile projects
- Develop and conduct training and knowledge transfer to junior engineers
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must have between 4-8 years of experience with development and systems integration in open-source software, preferably using Open Source to build out platform services
- Must have 4 to 8 years of experience with Service Management Platform Architecture, scaling, On-prem, PaaS/SaaS management and development/workflow automation.
- Must have a deep understanding and broad command of service management software including CMDB, ITOM, ITSM, Portfolio, Logical and Physical Service Data Modeling, Service Map, Service Metadata collection/upkeep, and Configuration Item (CI) Governance.
- Must have expert knowledge of APIs
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or with in a diverse team
- Must be able a self-starter and operate with limited guidance and oversight.
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Security, and Application resiliency

Annual Salary
$100,000.00 - $204,500.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
