What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Scheduler Senior position at Geisinger?

- Schedules patient appointments system wide for providers including specialty and ancillary services.
- Schedules and provides proper prep instructions for ancillary and diagnostic procedures and tests using physician-specific and department guidelines.
- Coordinates and completes accurate basic registration, demographic and insurance information to ensure timely and accurate payment for services while scheduling appointments.
- Collaborates with Clinic Operations to assure that all appointment requests are satisfied within the time frame specified by the referring provider.
- Coordinates provider cancellations in a timely manner to ensure patients are being notified and rescheduled appropriately.
- Reviews specific department programs to ensure pre-visit requisites are met and contacts the patient if they are not to assist in getting them obtained.
- Processes requests for referrals and obtains the referrals for physician offices as required.
- Answers patient and referring physician questions pertaining to appointment status.
- Coordinates the hold and release of template slots for requests to occur within weeks.
- Facilitates and assures physician to physician or department contact.
- Collaborates with supervisor and serves as a liaison and advocate between Scheduling Services and Operations.
- Makes suggestions for improvements to procedures or innovations to enhance patient service.
- Serves as a mentor and preceptor to new hires and co-workers.
- Provides updates and training to work groups as appropriate regarding scheduling guidelines, system enhancements.
- Leads internal department improvement teams to identify and resolve appointment related technology, procedures, work flows, resource management and scheduling-related issues.
