What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Registered Nurse - Wound Care position at Geisinger?

  • Completes assessments as established by scope of practice.
  • Addresses physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patient and family throughout the continuum of care.
  • Functions as the expert clinician in assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating the care of the patient wound, ostomy, continence disorders as well as pressure ulcer treatment and prevention.
  • Plans patient care to reflect realistic, measurable, and obtainable goals, adapting the approach as required.
  • Provides direct patient care to patients with disorders of the integumentary system including wounds, ostomies, and continence disorders.
  • Initiates collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members and acts to proactively resolve and facilitate patient needs.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of processes that result in optimum care and clinical outcomes for patients with altered skin integrity.
  • Participates in committees and projects as assigned.
  • Serves as a resource in the development of patient education material.
  • Assists in evaluating the suitability of the home environment for return of the patient through discussion with patient, family, and members of the care team.
  • Serves in advisory capacity to hospital committees and workgroups regarding best practice standards on wound, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Collaborates with leadership and staff to determine wound and ostomy needs for patients and provides consultation and care as assigned.
  • Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment relevant to the position.

Qualifications:

*** This position is eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus paid over 2 years. Certain stipulations do apply ***

  • Hours: 36 hours per week; 7:00am and 7:30pm or 8:00am-4:30pm. Shifts will be either 8 hours or 12 hours in length. To be discussed further during interview.
  • Potential for weekend and holiday coverage in the future
  • Required experience: 2 years of RN work experience
  • Preferred Experience: BSN. You will be required to enroll into a BSN within 6 months of hire and complete it within 2 years.  Wound Care Certification is preferred. Geisinger provides tuition reimbursement as well as certification assistance.
