The Position

The Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated scientific leader who will be supporting small molecule/macrocyclic peptide projects in discovery and development as part of the PK-Transport group. The PK/Transport group is primarily responsible for overseeing the in vivo PK and PK/PD support of discovery and development projects, assessing absorption and transporter interactions, and providing a range of modeling support across our portfolio.

The DMPK department is dedicated to enabling the discovery, development and commercialization of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of small molecule/peptide drug candidates. We accomplish this through the application of state of the art technologies and sciences of bioanalysis, drug metabolism, drug transport and pharmacokinetics. DMPK works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to optimize leads, select clinical candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

The individual would lead the DMPK strategy, design and execute non-clinical studies in a highly collaborative project team environment.  Specifically, the individual will be involved in the following activities as part of their role:

  • Representation of DMPK at multi-functional discovery and development project teams over a wide therapeutic space and/or small molecule and novel modalities
  • Lead DMPK strategy as it relates to regulatory setting/interactions; author reports/sections for regulatory briefing packages/filings
  • Manage and mentor scientists 

Required Qualifications: 

  • A PhD degree in pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism or other relevant fields with 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience as a DMPK project leader with breath of experience in a wide range of therapeutic areas/modalities (supported by peer-reviewed publications/ invited presentations).
  • In depth pharmacokinetics knowledge and proven scientific expertise in problem solving and integrating multi- functional data in support of development/clinical stage projects
  • Good communication, managerial, leadership and organizational skills and the ability to work in multifunctional teams are essential

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with leading multi-functional project teams, utilizing in silico models and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and/or physiologically based pharmacokinetics (PBPK) are highly desired.
