The Position
We are seeking an exceptional Principal Scientist to join Genentech's Department of Antibody Engineering. The successful candidate will head their own lab and lead collaborative multi-disciplinary teams to design, validate, and advance next-generation protein therapeutics that address major unmet medical needs into clinical development. This position will focus on biologies that are not readily addressable with conventional IgGs, potentially involving agonizing or inhibiting pathways in a tissue-, cell-, or context-selective fashion, or enabling therapeutic delivery to regions not readily accessible to standard antibodies. The research will sit at the interface between technology and biology, including defining important therapeutic problems, identifying and applying molecular designs to address them, and balancing biological activity with the practical needs of drug development. Our new Scientist will help shape the future of our antibody drug capabilities, and will be expected to present their research externally and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Who You Are
We are seeking highly motivated and self-driven candidates with a passion for innovation, creativity, and commitment to translational science and drug development. A PhD is required, and postdoctoral training is strongly preferred. We encourage applications from candidates with extensive prior experience as well as those coming directly from exemplary postdoc careers. Ideal applicants will excel in protein engineering methodologies and be well-versed in biology. Research experience with antibodies is not essential. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a sustained record of productivity and substantive scientific contributions as determined by consistent high-impact publications, patent inventorship, and/or external presentations. Candidates need to be team-oriented, collegial, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
