Job Title: Packaging Engineer

Job Summary:
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the design, prototyping, and testing of innovative thermoformed fiber packaging. This position will manage multiple development projects and prioritize tasks based on timelines. The Packaging Engineer will deliver effectively in a cross-functional team environment by working with sales, customers, quality, and operations for scale-up including line trials and production start-ups.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and lead packaging development projects and manage assigned primary and secondary packaging projects.
- Work with sales and the cross-functional project team to ensure packaging is fit for purpose to meet the packaging specifications and delivered on time, in full
- Perform technical analysis of new packaging designs and identify possible solutions to improve the design.
- Deliver innovative designs and supportive testing which not only meet the required quality and technical standards, but also provides the customer an experience that will keep them coming back for more
- Manage good technical data records - project data, specifications, test results
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding of package development process and engineering principles
- Project management skills to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain packaging commitments to project scheduling
- Well-versed in relevant software (e.g. CAD, MS Office)
- An entrepreneurial mindset is beneficial
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science or engineering equivalent.
- One (1) to five (5) years of experience in the packaging field, preferably in foodservice packaging.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to talk and/or listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to grasp, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, to reach with hands and arms, climb ladders and stairs, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch and push or pull on objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. This position will require the use of safety equipment and clothing. Where noise levels exceed allowable limits, hearing protection is required and provided. There may be prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
