This position will be part of a talented, hard-working team of communications and marketing professionals in the Strategic Development Department, reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Development.

The GA Energy Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, energetic communications and media relations specialist. This position will be part of a talented, hard-working team of communications and marketing professionals in the Strategic Development Department, reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as primary external media contact for the Energy Group, developing and managing relationships with global media to raise GA’s profile in the conversation about the future of energy and fusion.
- Write, edit, and prepare press releases, promotional materials, articles, briefings, and other key documents.
- Responsible for placing stories in local, national, and international media about GA’s activities in fusion energy and related fields.
- Manage and develop content for Energy Group social media feeds.
- In coordination with the Senior Science Editor and others, develop and implement strategic communications plans for the Energy Group and the DIII-D National Fusion Facility.
- In coordination with Energy Group management, identify and prepare key scientists and other experts to provide perspective and insight to the media. Arrange and oversee media interviews and track placement of stories.
- Assist with managing visits and tours of GA’s facilities by VIPs from government and other organizations.
- Identify content and manage editing and production for the monthly GA Energy Group newsletter and Energy Group contributions to the quarterly GA Update newsletter.
- Work with GA Publications department to generate photos, videos, and graphics for Energy Group communications, including social media.
- Prepare daily media clips for Energy Group management.
- Serve as the Energy Group representative with a variety of external groups in the global fusion energy community.
- Assist with development and preparation of presentations for Energy Group strategic planning meetings.
- Develop and recommend changes/updates/modifications to editorial practices and participate in policy and procedure revisions ensuring company compliance and ethics standards are met.
- Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications:
Typically requires a Bachelors degree in marketing, communications, or a related discipline, and ten or more years of progressive professional experience in the communications field. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Excellent media relations skills, preferably with an existing network of quality contacts in national media.
- Must be skilled at writing fresh, engaging press releases and other communications materials; must have strong editing skills for polishing content produced by the communications team.
- Must have significant experience generating, nurturing, and maintaining relationships with journalists, preferably in the energy space.
- Must have a deep understanding of how reporters develop stories and how to meet their needs with interesting content about GA’s activities.
- Must have experience arranging and managing interviews, both in-person and remote (phone/online), as well as experience preparing interview subjects for their conversations with media.
- Experience working in science or energy media is a plus.
- Must have experience identifying social media–appropriate stories, crafting eye-catching posts, and tracking engagement.
- Must be experienced at identifying and defining short- and long-term communications goals and turning these into specific action items.
- Must be comfortable working with complex scientific and technical subjects.
- Must be comfortable working with a highly diverse range of stakeholders in government, academia, and private industry, maintaining and growing these relationships while ensuring that GA’s messages are being disseminated.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
