Engineer is to be cognizant of the hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical equipment used in lifting and handling with specific responsibility for all overhead cranes, forklifts, and personnel lifts. Responsibilities to include resolution of technical problems, recommending design changes, vendor liaison and input of procedures and technical support to department repair and test personnel in order to support production operations.
Requires an individual with a strong systems background to initiate and coordinate any studies to improve equipment, operating methods, expand existing hardware utilization and development of any new hardware required. The individual must be capable of climbing to 150 foot levels above the ground and feel comfortable working at this height. This job also requires field work in all climatic conditions. Occasional off hour work and on-call work work may be required. Must be able to work at both Groton and Quonset Point.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree or higher
5 or more years experience
Mechanical Background plus a real interest in cranes
Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic components.
Capable of making technical presentations and be able to work with shipyard management personnel.
Internal candidates must be from an oganization outside of operations. (Casciano & Gabriel)
Preferred:
Knowledge of AISC, OSHA, NEC and ASME standards is desirable.
