General Dynamics Electric Boat currently operates three (3) dry docks and two (2) building ways that are certified by the U.S. Navy in accordance with MIL-STD-1625. The Groton Facilities department is seeking individuals to manage the certification of these business-critical assets.
This position entails configuration management of the physical assets as well as the certification documents (facility certification reports, maintenance manuals, and operating manuals). Job functions will include identifying projects required for the facilities to continue to operate at their certified rated capacities, execution of the same projects, defining maintenance requirements, reviewing maintenance records, and supporting drydocking and launch evolutions as technical support.
This is a multidisciplinary engineering position involving structural, mechanical, and electrical systems. The successful candidate is not expected to be an expert in all three areas; however, they must be able to read structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and understand the basics of each field. The certification engineer will work closely with Docking Operations (D502) as well as subject matter experts in other Electric Boat Engineering departments.
In this position, an engineer is required to think critically, initiate process improvements, and challenge the status quo.
