Overview
Multiple positions for NDT Examiners available to support the Groton Shipyard (Groton, CT), Quonset Point Shipyard (North Kingstown, RI), or Electric Boat’s Supply Base (Groton, CT).
The successful candidate will contribute to the performance of Nondestructive (NDT) Engineering services at Electric Boat or within Electric Boats Supply Base by providing technical guidance, oversight, and expertise in the following methods for both Nuclear and Nonnuclear applications: VT, MT, PT, ET, UT, RT, CR, and PAUT. Primary responsibilities are to develop, review, and/or qualify NDT procedures for specific applications, reviewing and monitoring Supplier NDT or EB NDT and training programs. Examining and certifying all Inspection and Operations personnel for Electric Boat’s NDT program
Additional responsibilities may include depending on position:
- Review, administer, and ensure shipyard compliance with fabrication, welding, and NDT military specifications.
- Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field on NDT.
- Providing technical guidance and expertise with respect to construction support and problem resolution at the EB shipyards and for Suppliers
- Participate in audits through the in-depth supplier assessments (ISA) at Supplier Facilities. Review and approve Supplier NDT procedures for compliance to Purchase Order and associated government specification requirements.
- Serve as project or technical lead on both in-house and externally funded development and process improvement/cost reduction tasks.
- Evaluate new developments in the NDT field for possible application to current and future construction.
- Involvement with Quality Assurance, Supplier Quality, Design and Engineering, SUPSHIP Groton and NAVSEA Customer representatives.
- Preparing technical reports as result of audits, testing, research and development, and investigations
Travel is estimated to be between 0 – 25% depending on the position.
Qualifications
Required:
- High-school diploma or GED with appropriate related NDT certification(s) or experience.
- Presently or previously certified in multiple NDT methods as a Level II or III.
Preferred:
- Presently or previously certified in one (1) NDT method as a Level III.
- A background in engineering or engineering support.
- Experience in Quality in an industrial environment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication.
- Familiarity with Military specifications (T9074-AS-GIB-010/271 and NAVSEA 250-1500-1).

- Applicant must be able to read, write, and interpret specifications, procedures, reports, and other documents
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to ensure effective interface with a variety of organizations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to evaluate situations, make recommendations, and take prompt and effective action.
- Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point (or equivalent).
- Applicant must have the ability to understand basic principles of multiple NDT methods and applications to determine weld and base metal performance.
- Applicant should have the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to investigate problems by effectively asking questions, extracting necessary data from available sources, and working with others to determine root causes and implement appropriate solutions.
