We are hiring (4) Drydock Machinist Mechanics J-1. The hours are 0400-1645, Monday- Friday.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE ()
The Drydock Machinist Mechanic J1 is responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner. Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.

POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training/Required Experience)
- Must have the ability to navigate a ship, the Drydock, and understand compartment designation.

Must have knowledge and understanding of technical publications and drawings.

Must be able to repair and/or install equipment using routine mechanical knowledge in conjunction with technical information and diagrams but needs to work with close supervision.

Must understand the use of measuring instruments such as micrometer, tachometer, dial indicator and caliper.

Be knowledgeable in the use of all common shop and hand tools.

Must be able to perform duties required to prepare the drydock for a docking evolution, to include the fabrication, preparation and assembly of the drydock blocks but needs to work with close supervision.

Must be able to perform drydocking evolution duties such as diesel engine watch and operation of other equipment as necessary but needs to work with close supervision.

Must be able to perform drydock watch duties in accordance with the drydock operational procedures and instructions but needs to work with close supervision.

Must have good oral and written communication skills.

- VISUAL REQUIREMENTS
Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the job is at or within arm's reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades' tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by mechanics, electricians, technicians, service people, painters, etc.
Must be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis. Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined work spaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.
- WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to Drydock Supervisor and/or DockMaster.
- PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure tanks/compartments has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met (ex., ventilation, lighting, safety equipment, etc.)
- Ensure conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written (ex., fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.)
- Ensure that WAF ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished. Must ensure that no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
- Ensure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (ex., special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.)
- Ensure that you are trained for qualified for the work you are assigned to do (ex., JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.)
- Ensure that you and personnel working under your direction are working safely and as productively as possible, maintaining quality control at all times.
- Ensure that job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
- Ability to complete assignment but needs to work with close supervision.
- ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountable to Drydock Supervisor and/or DockMaster.

- UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in tanks and confined spaces. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including respirator. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours
May require up to 10% travel.
