Job Description

GM Design's Appearance Quality team is looking for a Develop Lead who will be responsible for the visual development of specific commodities to meet Color & Trim design intent and color requirements. This includes visual review of construction and color for PPAP masters and second source approvals. The Develop Lead would also support the development of advanced materials within their assigned commodity.

General Responsibilities include:
  • Lead development for specified commodities
  • Work directly with material suppliers to review submissions for construction and color
  • Coordinate with color & trim designer to ensure appearance target is met
  • Collaborate with materials engineering on development
  • Create and update trim transmittals in GRANTA system
  • Maintain development status for programs
  • Support program develop status reviews
  • Support PPAP master readiness process
  • Support materials engineering readiness reviews
  • Collaborate with other regions on global development
  • Advance and resolve issues pertaining to specified commodities
  • Coordinate with Thierry to review and approve masters
  • Support the define team and CTDAR process
  • Actively participate in team projects and process improvements
  • Maintain brand and color & material strategies
  • Support the launch team during the AAR process
  • Develop strategic relationships internally with design and externally with suppliers
  • Support program and material benchmarking activities
  • Investigate new materials and technologies

Additional Job Description
Qualifications:
  • Exceptional visual color acuity - must pass color discrimination test (Munsell-Farnsworth)
  • Experienced in the areas of color / grain / gloss and overall appearance attributes
  • Understanding of a vast range of materials
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes and how they affect appearance
  • Demonstrate an elevated level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact positively with internal and external customers
  • Excellent project and program management skills
  • Ability to create and deliver effective presentations to management and large groups
  • Ability to run effective meetings and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Exhibit creativity and an innovative approach
  • Excel and Power Point experience

Education:
  • Bachelor Degree with qualifications in Design or Engineering
  • Automotive industry / product experience within color and trim or materials development
