Job Posting for School Social Worker at Genesee Education Consultant Services (GECS)

Kensington Woods Schools is looking for a part time School Social Worker for 6-12th grade. This position will service students with IEPs and also general education students.

A Qualified Candidate Will Possess

  • Graduate degree in counseling, social work, or related field.
  • Eligible for state approval for school social work.
  • Demonstrated competence as a school-based social services counselor
  • Experience with supporting students with IEPs and associated compliance work
  • Strong collaboration skills

The School Social Worker Will Be Expected To

  • Support students through academic and social/emotional counseling
  • Be a partner with faculty and staff in supporting students' needs and developing a culture of high expectations and student success
  • Develop and implement academic and social/emotional interventions
  • Deliver direct or indirect services for students as written on IEP
  • Write and ensure students are working toward meeting their IEP goals
  • Coordinate with Special Services team
  • Attend and participate in IEP, staff, and professional development meetings
  • Effectively and consistently communicate with parents, students and staff regarding students
  • Work with students, parents, and staff in a compassionate and productive manner

There May Be Additional Opportunities To

  • Develop and run groups based on student needs/interests
  • Assist in the development of programs that help all students develop social emotional skills and support students' mental health.
  • Support students develop and pursue post-secondary plans

Kensington Woods is a small, personal, college-prep school for grades 6-12 in Livingston County, MI. Kensington Woods’ approach is student centered where students are expected and encouraged to excel. The schedule supports project based learning, co-teaching, subject-area integration and staff professional development and collaborative planning. Students have an advisory class that focuses on character and academic skill development and also provides time for remediation, tutoring, extended learning, clubs and student leadership activities. The small size of the school results in an environment that is caring and open where students of all ages are comfortable and students and teachers develop strong relationships.

Skills

Staff at Kensington Woods work closely together. Each Friday allows time for faculty and staff to work together to plan projects, discuss data and appropriate responses to it, monitor and adjust curriculum, and attend to student needs with regard to the learning environment. Staff are encouraged to adopt leadership roles and to be innovative in their practice within a collegial and supportive environment. Faculty are provided with significant professional development that is supported by leadership. Staff at Kensington Woods qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program and the Michigan Department of Education Student Loan Repayment Plan program.

In addition, Kensington Woods is a participant in the Michigan Department of Education Grow Your Own program where qualified candidates can have their educator preparation programs paid for by the school if they are working towards initial certification or additional endorsements in qualified programs.
