Instructional Coach and Consultant, English Learners
Job Summary:
The Instructional Coach and Consultant, English Learners is responsible for implementing the ESOL Program in cohesion with the Program Supervisor. They oversee the required professional learning of ESOL Program Staff including EL facilitators, liaisons and ESL teachers. They also support the professional learning and ESOL Program implementation in participating consortium districts and PSAs. The Instructional Coach and Consultant provides countywide WIDA ACCESS and related trainings. They collaborate with local district Point of Contacts (POCs) to coordinate and support professional learning for local district instructional staff who have EL identified students as well as building administrators and enrollment staff. The coach and consultant utilizes their expertise to support the English as a Second/Other Language (ESOL) program eligibility and identification; consults on instructional programming, evaluation and assessment; advises on parent engagement, communication and outreach; and assists with Program Evaluation.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Maintains ongoing knowledge of local, state and national educational initiatives in order to effectively deliver ESOL staff professional learning, as well as support program services within the schools.
2. Assists in the development, selection and/or implementation of instructional and program resources to support student learning and compliance.
3. Supports implementation of common procedures, expectations and available supports for local districts’ programming.
4. Provides ongoing communication and support to local district Point of Contacts (POCs).
5. Supports student ESOL program eligibility screening and annual English proficiency assessment implementation.
6. Provides initial and ongoing training and/or DPPD to English as a Second/Other Language Program staff.
7. Serves as a mentor for EL HQ teachers.
8. Provides a catalog of annually available, countywide professional learning.
9. Leads local district specific professional learning plans around best practices, including differentiated instruction, for EL students in local schools.
10. Assists and gives input into ESOL staff attainment and evaluations.

11. Performs additional assessments to evaluate the strengths and potential needs of EL students.
12. Participates as a Child Study and/or Special Education IEP Team Member speaking to linguistic and cultural variables.
13. Attains, disaggregates and analyzes data to support the Title III Program Evaluation Tool (PET).
14. Supports local districts’ parent communications.
15. Fulfills Private Nonpublic School coaching supports as outlined by PNP agreements.
16. Communicates with district leadership as appropriate.
17. Contributes professionally with state and/or local, community organizations.
18. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties:

Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s Degree required. Valid Michigan teacher certificate with ESL or bilingual endorsement required. Demonstrated proficiency or significant experience in a language other than English required. SIOP Trainer of Trainers Preferred. Coaching and mentoring preferred.
Experience:
Five years of successful experience educating K-12 English Learners of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Demonstrated experience in administering, interpreting and evaluating student language proficiency assessments including WIDA Screener, WIDA ACCESS and WIDA Alt ACCESS. Experience coordinating and providing professional learning and program /leadership.
