JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Server DATE: October, 2023
REPORTS TO: General Manager, Executive Chef, Floor Managers/ Supervisors
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for serving and assisting Genesis House guests in a warm, accommodating and professional manner, ensuring complete customer satisfaction. Must actively embody Genesis House standards while in the workplace, both in interaction with fellow service team members, kitchen staff, guests and management. Level of service must be consistent with established Genesis House standards in every respect, as described in the employee manual and service handbook.
INTERACTIONS: Guests, Service Staff, Kitchen Staff, Assistant GM, General Manager, Executive Chef and Sous Chefs.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to excel at each essential duty. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Preferably a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, menus and guest requests. Ability to effectively present information to guests, fellow employees and managers.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized service situations with only occasional or no variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a busser to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, a busser is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, kitchen equipment or controls and speak or hear. A busser is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. A busser is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
A busser must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25-30 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the essential duties of this job a busser is frequently required to work in a limited physical space with variable atmospheric conditions including ventilation, lighting, smoke and extreme temperatures. The noise level in the work area regularly exposed to construction materials, odors and debris.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Must demonstrate a sincere and accommodating disposition towards our guests. All guests must feel that they are welcome and important while receiving a style and level of service of the highest standards of any New York City restaurant.
- To maintain level of service according to established Genesis House standards. This includes all food service and beverage service as outlined in Genesis House service handbook.
- To set and reset dining room and bar tables to Genesis House standards.
- To assist server in removing china, glass and silver from guests after each course or as needed.
- To deposit china, glassware and silver in a standardized and orderly manner in the dishwashing area.
- To stock and maintain the service side stations.
- To maintain stock of bread items and olive oil in an organized, neat and hygienic manner.
- To clean and organize service stations, including the sweeping of floors and vacuuming of side stations.
- To prepare all coffee, espresso and espresso-based drinks to Genesis House
- To prepare all teas, including iced tea to Genesis House standards.
- To read all Micros orders received in coffee station and to efficiently, neatly and quickly prepare drinks in order of receiving Micros orders.
- To arrange all drinks on counter in an organized manner for delivery to the tables
- To stock and maintain all items needed for service, including coffees, teas, milk/cream, and ice in an organized, neat and hygienic manner.
- Ongoing cleaning and maintenance of coffee station, including espresso machine, according to established restaurant procedures. This includes pre-shift and post-shift duties as assigned by management.
- Ongoing cleaning and maintenance of physical plant and workstation according to established restaurant procedures. This includes pre-shift, post-shift, daily, weekly and monthly duties as assigned by management.
- Responsible for adherence to posted work schedule and arrival time. Must follow established procedures for schedule changes and shift adjustments. Employee schedule may change without notice. Schedule may include participation in private dining room events and/or off-premise catering events.
- Adherence to dress code, grooming and hygiene standards.
- Required to attend mandatory meetings when scheduled.
- Must identify and report problem situations to management immediately.
- Other duties and tasks deemed necessary by management.
