Histology Technician (Per diem)

Brief description of a Histo Technician is to perform the embedding, microtomy, and staining for tissue samples.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy of samples received in the histology department.
  • Pre-sorting, scanning, tracking, and routing of samples in the histology department.
  • Properly monitor and record all the testing performed during the shift.
  • Communicating with clients, pathologists, and laboratory staff.
  • Maintain inventory and supplies.
  • Perform embedding for processed tissue samples.
  • Perform microtomy for the tissue embedded cassettes.
  • Perform H&E, IHC, and special stain processes.
  • Perform coverslipping of stained slides.
  • File all slides and blocks when completed.
  • Validate and process control tissue for testing.
  • Clean, sterilize, and organize all workstations as needed.
  • Performs maintenance of all histology equipment when needed.
  • Perform laboratory’s quality control procedures as required.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by the manager of the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’sdegree preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience as a Histotechnician required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • This job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable

  • Monday to Friday
