Gensco currently has an amazing opportunity for a Buyer available to join our Purchasing Team at our Corporate Offices in Tacoma, WA!

This job is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm

Full Time - Starting pay range $25- $30/hour based on experience

Summary

The Buyer is responsible for performing and assisting with a full range of purchasing, inventory, and supply chain responsibilities as well as attaining company customer service goals, vendor relations goals, and branch inventory and efficiency goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Supplier Relations

  1. Act as primary company contact for suppliers.
    • Maintain regular and frequent communications with those key supplier to which they are assigned.
    • Participate as a key member in formal supplier review meetings.
    • Assist the Sales Support team in managing supplier participation in marketing programs and co-op funds.
    • Conduit for the supplier to voice their wishes and needs.
  2. Assis with negotiating cost, terms, freight, and conditions of sale with assigned suppliers to achieve greatest possible value and/or a market advantage.
  3. Assist with procuring special costs, as needed, to meet competitive situations.
  4. Analyze and resolve issues arising from warranty, obsolescence, slow moving inventory, packaging, delivery, customer complaints, and any other problems that may arise in dealing with specific vendors.

2.  Inventory Management & Replenishment

  1. Assist in meeting company goals of service level, inventory turns, direct ship percentages and supplier negotiations.
  2. Regularly review product lines to determine if replenishment is needed. 
      • Determine where replenishment stock should come from, how it should get there, and how often.
      • Identify and correct shortages and outages immediately – use critical inventory report, and all available reports to identify and resolve. 
      • Initiate buy out as needed so internal shortages are transparent to customer.
  3. Identify overstock, slow mover, non-mover inventory and communicate to sales/marketing or local branch for resolution. 
  4. Manage the inventory of seasonal items using historical data, input from branch ops and sales, and supplier tools to determine timely orders. 
  5. Communicate new product performance with branches and key internal stakeholders. 

3.  Communication – External and Internal

  1. Initiate communication on any changes in products, orders, availability, vendors, pricing, and services for assigned product lines. 
  2. Routinely solicit and use feedback from the field and other departments particularly in regard to changes in sales or customer trends. 
    • Provide feedback on how the information was used and the results of the action as needed. 
  3. Use company Marketing and broadcast email, as appropriate, to internally publish important information relating to product lines. 
  4. Provide external communication including soliciting and giving information to suppliers on updates, people changes, competition, and market changes or issues. 
  5. Utilize written communication skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

4.  Administration & Maintenance    

  1. Set up of new suppliers. 
  2. Set up of new items, updated costs and rebates; maintain the purchasing module including contacts, order points, lead times, and order quantities. 
  3. Update branch files for new products, branch correspondence, supplier information, and catalogs.
  4. Maintain consistent product descriptions within product lines.

Skills and Qualifications

  • AA or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of the products Gensco and Slakey Brothers sells
  • Understanding of Gensco and Slakey Brothers operations, distribution and warehouse operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Organizational and negotiating skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
  • Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proactive, self-motivated, able to recognize issues and resolve or escalate appropriately
  • Strong people skills, recognizes when to use formal or informal style, not easily intimidated, accessible, ability to say “no” in a firm but polite manner to customers and vendors
  • Strong decision-making abilities, understands impact and implications of decisions
  • Strong time management skills, ability to prioritize and follow through
  • Willing to think creatively and identify improvement and money saving opportunities
  • Positive approach toward challenging situations
  • Able to operate computer terminal, calculator and other office machines
  • Able to communicate with the public in person and on the phone
  • Able to work sitting or standing and to move freely throughout the facility
  • Able to lift and carry equipment, supplies and inventory on a frequent basis
