Description
The Development Engineer shall work closely with Engineering leadership, Program Management and Production Personnel to troubleshoot, identify root cause and resolve product issues. The individual is responsible for conducting research and designing tests to qualify new materials, parts and/or processes related to Aircrew Oxygen Masks. The Development Engineer collaborates with internal and external resources while providing engineering support to NPD programs.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design and Development
• Review and develop solid models using SolidWorks.
• Define and develop detailed engineering drawings.

• Configuration Management
• Review and Approve ECRs and ECOs for completeness and accuracy while assuring all related documents are revised as required and part dispositions correctly identified.
• Respiratory Mechanics
• Assess impact of oxygen mask / breathing system designs on pilot’s breathing functions.
• Analyze test data from breathing test system in context of respiratory functions.
• Test and Verification
• Create Engineering test plans and reports for product verification and validation.
• Fabricate, evaluate, and test prototype designs.
• Write clear and concise engineering reports to document component and product testing.
• Continuous Improvement
• Provide support to Process Engineering and Quality to resolve in-house production problems and supplier issues relating to product performance and quality attainment.
• Support Quality Engineering in the development of inspection methods and instructions.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to current design and manufacturing practices.
• Support the Process Engineers in the development of manufacturing processes and documentation.
• Other
• Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established company ISO 9001/AS 9100 procedures and work instructions.
• Complete other duties as directed by Management.
Requirements
EDUCATION: The individual shall possess a BS Degree in BioMedical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering. Experience in respiratory mechanics is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: The individual shall possess 0-3 years of hands-on experience in an NPD engineering or product development team environment. Experience with Solidworks Modeling, Drawings and 3D printers is required. Familiarity with Laser Scanning Technology and Military Specifications in an AS9100 quality system environment is a plus. The individual shall have practical knowledge and experience with metal fabrication, plastics processing & tooling and additive manufacturing techniques. Experience in respiratory mechanics is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong computer skills with an emphasis on technical 3D Computer Aided Design (SolidWorks) and Computer Aided Engineering (FEA and SolidWorks simulation) and business (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, database, project management and electronic mail) applications.
• Ability to create, read and understand engineering drawings with expertise in the area of basic engineering drafting practices, principles, standards, and conventions (ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14-100, ASME Y14.24, ASME Y14.35, ASME Y14.34, DOD-100, and Global design/drafting standards).
• Create 3D CAD models of fidelity appropriate for the task; higher fidelity models for items that are far along in the design process and lower fidelity models if appropriate for less mature designs.
• Be mechanically inclined, have technical and practical knowledge in the design of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
• Detail oriented, curious, motivated, results-driven and possess strong communication and team skills.
• Work under supervision, manage multiple tasks and prioritize daily activities, prepare and present technical options within the scope of the instructions, and produce accurate timely work.
• Understand material selection for component design and assembly principles with a focus on DFM.
• Evaluate breathing systems and oxygen mask impact on pilot’s respiratory functions.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS:
Internal: Interacts frequently with local engineering staff and other departments on a daily basis.
External: Communicates, as required, with others outside the Company, such as Government personnel, suppliers, subcontractors and customers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of occasionally performing work in the warehouse, which is subject to moderate changes in temperature.

Salary : $86,300 - $106,400
