Role Overview
Genus PLC has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Research Test Lab Manager to organize and maintain all R&D test lab functions within the Biosystems Engineering group. As a member of the Biosystems Engineering team, you will collaborate with a high-performing cross-functional R&D team. The successful candidate will have a passion for building high-performing teams and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You are an individual who takes ownership, is results-driven, innovative, collaborates broadly, and radiates expertise. You have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The position is located in the Greater Madison, WI area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the execution of test programs and ensure they meet project requirements.
- Organize and manage daily R&D test lab operations including instrument & equipment reservations, lab layout, process workflows, inventory, and workspace management across function
- Meet with product engineering, product management, product technical support or equivalent groups to agree upon and issue test plans.
- Develop new procedures, processes, and resources as vital to providing more efficient, accurate, or sophisticated testing services.
- Ensure a continuous improvement mindset within the team while developing and maintaining group performance measures (KPI)
- Provide work direction and technical mentorship to the team including performance management, coaching, task assignment, training, development, continuous feedback, and goal setting
- Create and maintain a Standards library and stay abreast of applicable ANSI, IEEE, IEC, UL, and other standards.
- Stay current in lab technologies and advancements, and consistently seek out more efficient and productive ways to perform lab tasks.
- Act as a subject matter expert to train on capabilities within the lab environment and on all frequently used equipment.
- Order, organize, and maintain inventory stock, including biological samples.
- Maintain laboratory equipment through preventative maintenance scheduling, cleaning, and facilitating maintenance/repair with technical representatives when issues arise.
- Participate in the design, construction and installation of equipment as required to improve test operations.
- Ensure the R&D workspace remains compliant with all safety regulations, enforcing adherence of all staff to laboratory guidelines and company safety policies.
- Ensure adherence to technical standards, regulatory protocols, and best practices to promote security, quality, delivery, and cost-effectiveness

- Display willingness to perform non-routine tasks as needed to ensure high productivity.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications: (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field of study
- 10 years of test lab experience to include: 4 years leading, managing, and developing a team
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a STEM field of study
- Demonstrated laboratory planning experience
- Flow cytometry experience.
