ORD Gateway Manager
Job Description
- Position is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and managing the movement of airfreight shipments through Chicago Gateway. Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all air gateway operations. Responsible for air gateway performance while reporting to the Director of USA Gateways. Oversees all air gateway personnel functions as relating to key drivers including Revenue, GP, Tons, File Count, GP per Ton, GP per file, GP per FTE. Manages overall productivity in the gateway. Maintains relationships with: Air Carriers for BSA’s, allocations, and bookings. Manages LTL and FTL domestic line haul transportation to feed the export and import traffic flows through the Gateway. Understand and execute airline ULD pallet maximization concepts, volume shave, and equalization.
- Manages OCN charter operations including third party build and break contract. Ensures all duties performed by GHA personnel are completed in the most efficient and professional manner including, but not limited to:
- Loading and unloading of aircraft, vehicles, and freight/mail containers (ULDs/APCs, etc.).
- Build-up, break-down, and sort of freight as applicable.
- Safe and proper acceptance, handling and transfer of freight as applicable.
- Adherence to governmental rules and regulations including but not limited to TSA, FAA, and DHS
Roles
- Oversee and assist as needed with the coordination of air export/import shipments by providing routing and rates
- Work closely with team members to meet or exceed all customer service requirements.
- Develop and maintain positive internal customer (station and international partner) relationships.
- Communicate effectively with stations, overseas partners, airlines and team members.
- Accurate understanding of data and system entry.
- Resolve customer service and vendor issues.
- Involvement in and oversight of all aspects of air gateway operations
- Ensuring adherence to all regulations, policies and procedures as required. This includes all safety regulations and requirements as well as federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Executing a business plan for the gateway’s territory in conjunction with management.
- Assisting with the hiring, training, and conducting regular performance reviews as needed for all air gateway managers.
- Provides orientation and on-the-job training for subordinates.
- Maintains appropriate communication within and is responsible for timely and regular field communications.
- Assumes other activities and responsibilities as directed by the Executive team.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for team operation in the Gateway. (Execution, Finance, and Gateway)
- Aligns and coordinates with local branch leaders and Director of USA Gateways
- Engages with area customer service branches, reviews communication and performance issues, drives continuous improvement
- Safeguards the reputation and profitability of the Gateway within the scope of activity, process optimization
- Ensures all teams adhere to process; identifies areas needing modification, coordinates changes through proper channels
- Adjust the scope, schedule and workload of teams according to workflow
- Reports, measures and drives quality and performance across all teams and individuals, in accordance with corporate KPI’s.
- Ensures cost control and improvement across all teams,
- Oversees onboarding of new customers with implementation team.

- Relationship building skills - Communicator, Negotiator and Collaborator with 3rd Parties, and Branches to implement new business.
- Develop solutions and root cause analysis for service failures, drive transactional cost improvements
- The ability to be analytical - Internal KPI’s, Productivity and Challenge / Adjust Processes as Necessary

- Meets SITA badge background check requirements.
