Summary/Objective

The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) is seeking candidates for high- visibility positions in our Vocational Rehabilitation Program. GVRA offers candidates the opportunity to work with community partners, organizations, and internal and external stakeholders throughout the state to develop partnerships and leverage resources. The Vocational Rehabilitation Program provides individualized vocational rehabilitation counseling, pre-employment transition services, employment skills development services, and supports to facilitate competitive integrated employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The Deaf Services Coordinator will work within Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Client Services to manage the workflow, work product and processes within the Deaf Services area. The ideal candidate will serve as a statewide subject matter expert and be responsible for effective collaboration with eight (8) VR Districts to deliver quality rehabilitation services that are designed to prepare individuals who are Deaf, Deaf/Blind or have hearing loss to seek, secure, and sustain competitive integrated employment outcomes.

  • Strengthens and oversees the provision of VR services statewide to individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HoH).
  • Provides expertise, guidance, and technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders in the area of Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deafblind.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Policy and Compliance and the Policy Manager to develop policies, processes, and performance improvements in the area of Deaf or Hard of Hearing service provision.
  • Works in partnership with the District Managers and Supervisors to ensure that staff implement policy as well as best practices in the area of services for individuals who are Deaf and those who are hard of hearing consistently across the state.
  • Collaborates with other coordinators, to include Assistive Technology, Blind Services, Employment, Provider Relations, Supported Employment and Transition to ensure services to individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing receive quality services.
  • Oversees the creation and delivery of training for VR staff members to support quality and effective VR services to individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Analyzes and tracks trends of DHoH related data by district and office for performance monitoring and reporting to the GVRA leadership.
  • Works in collaboration with both VR Residential Services leadership to provide DHoH services as an internal partner within GVRA.
  • Develops and fosters professional relationships with local and national DHoH agencies, education and training programs and internal and external partners.
  • Leads effort, in collaboration with Provider Relations, to develop and evaluate DHoH providers and vendors, examining effective communication, performance outcomes, and quality of service delivery.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

 

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch; frequently sit and use upper extremity to finger, handle, feel, grasp and reach. The employee must be able to frequently lift, move and/or carry up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift, move and/or carry up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job includes close vision, to include fine print, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Position Typer and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may occasionally require long hours and weekend work.

 

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, pre- employment testing, and additional checks required for your job.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the required education and experience, possess one or more of the following:

  1. Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Human Services, Deaf Education, or related field AND 3 years of related experience working directly with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, and/or service coordination involving multiple programs to promote positive outcomes.
  2. Five years of experience in case management within Deaf programs under policies related to employment outcomes including WIOA regulations compliance in a clinical setting
  3. Five years of experience delivering training and professional presentations to stakeholders at various levels
  4. Five years of experience developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external collaborative partners, including experience developing and executing Memorandums of Understanding
  5. Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, LPC, or related professional credential
  6. Score of Intermediate (3) or higher on the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI). Copy must be submitted with the application. This requirement is waived for individuals who are deaf and proficient in ASL.
Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND Four years of related experience OR Six years of related experience.
