Necropsy Technician

Maintain, coordinate, and facilitate all tissue handling including but not limited to animal and cadaveric tissue as well as the shipment thereof. Maintain regulatory compliance of all tissue storage, archival and transport. In addition, may be asked to provide assistance to veterinarian(s) and veterinary technician(s) in support of research studies. This may include daily care, husbandry, and support to the laboratory animals at GCMI/T3 Labs' test facility sites. Administer medications, sedatives, and anesthetics to laboratory animals. Assist in the post-operative care of minor and major surgical models. Document records and research data timely and accurately. This position will interact on a regular basis with: This position will interact with GCMI/T3 labs other technical positions, research scientist, and faculty. This positions influence is to support the execution of research and training projects for internal and external customers regarding tissue collection and storage. Job Duty 1 -
Provide support for the daily care and husbandry of the animals in the vivarium.

Job Duty 2 -
Administering medications and sedatives to the animal models.

Job Duty 3 -
Train to manage anesthesia for live animal models.

Job Duty 4 -
Manage the post-operative care of minor surgical models.

Job Duty 5 -
Perform timely and accurate record keeping and data collection.

Job Duty 6 -
Review records and data to confirm accuracy.

Job Duty 7 –

Ability to perform necropsies on variety of species, including the removal of various specimens for clients and staff, includes trimming tissues to desired protocol requirements.

Job Duty 8 -
Coordinate and process cadaveric orders including maintaining hard copy of health records, proper thawing of specimens, and OR set-up per protocol; manage inventory (supplies and equipment) for necropsy room.

Job Duty 9 -
Manage timely transfer of tissue to histology and/or storage with appropriate labeling and paperwork; coordinate and execute the shipment/receipt and/or pick-up of all tissues in accordance with appropriate regulations.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Required Experience
Five years of job related experience

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Associate's Degree or two years college course work; Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Experience
Four years of lab animal experience or veterinary experience with college degree

SKILLS
Knowledge of medication calculations and common drugs used in laboratory animals. The ability to execute medical orders and research protocols instructions without supervision. The ability to properly restrain and sedate laboratory animals. The ability to perform anesthesia on laboratory animals. The ability to perform necropsies on various animal species. The ability to routinely lift 50lbs or more. Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
