Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our geotechnical practice in our Columbia, Maryland office. The position will apply engineering skills to projects involving dams, levees, waterfront and flood control structures, brownfields redevelopment, and other water and waste containment facilities while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dam analysis, design, and assessment;
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and seepage;
  • Geotechnical and environmental site characterization;
  • Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems;
  • Small to large project/task management and proposal preparation support;
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications; and
  • Fieldwork associated with design and construction services.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same field. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.) (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as Slope/W, Sigma/W, SLIDE, PLAXIS, FLAC, AUTOCAD, and ARCGIS. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
