Gerhart is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team!
In this role the Senior Mechanical Engineer will work as a resource within the Gerhart Engineering Solutions team to support business development, design, development, testing, and implementation of products and systems. The candidate will report to the group’s Engineering Manager and will work within a group of Process Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Management, and Fabrication team resources. The ideal candidate will have experience with material movement equipment design, structural analysis, project leadership, and working knowledge of fabrication and installation of customer solutions.
Main Responsibilities
- Champion mechanical engineering design, development, and fabrication efforts for engineered solutions that meet a high-level of functional and perceived quality to the customer.
- Collaborate with other engineers and technical personnel to effectively develop solutions.
- Generate detailed technical product specifications for customer project needs through electronic, verbal, and on-site evaluations to be used to complete product design, development, and manufacturing of solutions.
- Generate quotes for custom industrial process system designs within a timely manner to support business and sales teams.
- Perform engineering calculations to support analysis of product design related to specific product specification and safety requirements.
- Managing, delegating, and executing mechanical engineering and design for projects of varying levels of complexity that may integrate with electrical, fluid, pneumatic, weighing, and controls design.
- Identify complex technical issues, identify root cause, and execute solutions within engineering design and product manufacturing environments.
- Create 2D and 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies and conduct structural analysis of solutions through FEA software.
- Design, create, and implement piping and instrumentation diagrams for basic to intermediate sized systems.
- Generate and perform product validation testing suited to specific product and customer needs to ensure designs meet requirements and products are completed with a high-level of quality.
- Work closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams to bring product designs through the manufacturing process and validation testing.
- Provide technical support to field technicians and installers for the installation and maintenance of Gerhart designed systems.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, and in alignment with budget.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers and partners.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a minimum 3 years experience in material handling systems
- Experience with specifying automation and motion components, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, sensors, actuators, structure and performing analysis of loading calculations
- Proficient in 3D CAD design software (Solidworks preferred) and capable of performing finite element analysis
- Proven experience leading projects
- Ability to delegate tasks between disciplines and to manufacturing/fabrication environments
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with industrial manufacturing environments a plus
- Hands on experience preferred
- Must be able to work with multidisciplinary teams and independently
- Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation
- Project proposal and quoting experience preferred
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices
