Job Summary
Gerke Excavating Inc, is an established construction company seeking a motivated, quick thinker, and detail-oriented individual for a Benefits and Payroll Specialist position in our office.
This is a full-time, year-round position that can be fast-paced during our busy season. The ideal candidate will be flexible, professional, willing to learn, and not afraid to ask questions or follow-up. May require extended hours during peak season.
Responsibilities and Duties
The position will include but not limited to the following:
- Payroll Processing, garnishments, certified payrolls & certified reporting
- Processing I9’s, new hire paperwork, Employment Verifications
- Payroll taxes and year end processing
- Prepare and Analyze weekly payroll reports
- Supervise timekeeping process and enter timecards
- Solving issues related to payroll and benefits, answering inquiries, and enforcing company policies.
- Administers company benefit programs such as 401k, pension, health, dental, flexible spending, life insurance, accident and sickness.
- In addition, sends insurance changes to the provider and works with employees to resolve insurance problems.
- Hires personnel including screening, testing, interviewing, reference checking, preparing offer letters, hiring, setting up employment drug and alcohol screening and physicals, entering new employee information on the payroll system and coordinating new hire orientation.
- Assists management and safety director with the safety program and worker's compensation administration.
- Responsible for working with management, supervisors and safety director in preparing and filing accident reports, communicating with the insurance company to file first report of injury and monitoring cases.
- Works with FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) cases by completing the initial paperwork, ensuring the leave is approved, and following up with the employee and the doctor.
- Miscellaneous tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
Preferred Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the Office suite
- Attention to detail is a must
- Ability to multi-task and work in fast paced environment
- Experience with computerized accounting software
- Previous employment in the Construction industry and an Associates or Bachelor Degree are preferred.
