Description
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Mortgage Lending, the Mortgage Operations Manager/Team Leader will direct, manage and coordinate the functions of the Mortgage Lending Department and staff. Ensure and maintain a profitable mortgage-lending portfolio, including production, servicing, and management of a loan portfolio consistent with established policies and procedures. Project professional image, exercise independent judgment, and maintain confidentiality with all customer and sensitive data.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manage the Mortgage Lending Department operations and administer the Credit Union lending programs consistent with Credit Union objectives.
- Develop underwriting department and procedures, and implement strategies that will result in the sale into the secondary market or into our portfolio of residential loans.
- Identify and monitor all loans held for sale, providing senior management with detailed reports on an on-going basis.
- Prepare periodic loan department updates and periodic reports for management’s financial and operational reports, including statistics of the loan portfolio, status, delinquency, new loans, and interest rate terms.
- Interview, train, evaluate, supervise, schedule, coach and develop department staff as needed to provide responsive and professional service to our membership.
- Provide recommendation to management of changes to products, loan policies and procedures by following lending laws and regulations.
- Price and sell products consistent with Credit Union objectives.
- Must understand and perform Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) functions as applicable to job responsibilities.
- Attend credit union training sessions, conferences, or seminars as approved by supervisor. Maintain awareness of policies and regulations related to duties and responsibilities.
- Perform and supervise selling, packaging and timely delivery of loans consistent with requirements of investors (Conventional, Jumbo’s, Construction, FHA, FNMA, HUD, VA and private).
- Maintain all contacts with established investors and implement marketing techniques that will develop prospective secondary market investors.
- Maintain thorough and current knowledge of the Conventional, Jumbo’s, Construction, FHA, FNMA, HUD, VA and other investor requirements; recommend changes as necessary to the Credit Union policy manual.
- Develop and maintain current knowledge of Credit Union lending policies and market areas.
- Maintain historical pricing information including all indices.
- Provide basic financial counseling as needed or requested by members.
- Participate in community and business development activities such as Chamber of Commerce, Board of Realtors and Homebuilders.
- Communicate effectively with Credit Union employees; ensure coordination and exchange of information to accomplish Credit Union goals. Display respect, trust and dignity, acting in the best interest of the credit union. Lead by example; display solid ethics and integrity at all times. Control risk and manage real estate lending in a safe and sound manner.
- Maintain and protect all sensitive data utilizing the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to multi-task on numerous projects simultaneously.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Five to eight years of similar or related experience; financial organization experience desired.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field; or equivalent completion of a specialized course of study, training, and experience.
- Experience in underwriting real estate loans. Familiarity with secondary mortgage market and underwriting requirements.
- Experience with FICS software servicing system desired.
- Knowledge of Conventional, Jumbo’s, Construction, FNMA, HUD, FHA and VA underwriting guidelines.
- Knowledge of packaging, delivering and executing commitments to secondary markets.
- Proven professional sales ability in a financial or real estate venue.
- Experience supervising, motivating, and evaluating staff required.
- Experience in analyzing and understanding local and national economic data and making and setting marketing and pricing strategies.
- Extensive knowledge of real estate lending practices and procedures.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment, lending software, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Some travel is required to achieve training and business objectives.
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Per the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, this is considered a sedentary position.
