Responsibilities
Instruction, Research, and Scholarship (90%)
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in general, organic, and biochemistry, with the possibility of advanced courses in your specialty.
- Contribute to our research program, focusing on water quality and the use of analytical chemistry equipment such as ICPMS and HPLC.
- Mentor and advise students, both undergraduate and graduate, and serve on graduate committees.
- Supervise technical staff and students in conducting research, if grants are developed.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the department, college, and profession through collegial service.
- Engage in outreach to the broader community to strengthen the college’s position within it.
Education & Experience
- Minimum: Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field, with at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
- Preferred: PhD in Chemistry or a related field, postdoctoral experience, and a record of collaborative, multidisciplinary research.
- Proven ability to teach chemistry courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Experience with analytical chemistry equipment and mentoring students.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in computer software for administration and course delivery (e.g., MS Office, Learning Management Systems).
- Fluency in Navajo or other indigenous languages is desirable but not mandatory.
- This position is primarily indoors but may involve outdoor work in adverse weather conditions.
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
- Travel to other campuses, research sites, or outreach events is expected.
- This position requires driving on behalf of the college. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle training and history check are required.
