Job Title: Clinic Medical Assistant Lead

Department: Clinic

Reports To: Operations Manager

Exempt or Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: In your position you are responsible for providing patients, coworkers, providers, and associates the best professional support and service. This position provides daily leadership of the clinical employees and patient flow through the clinic. This position will promote a climate conducive to the growth of clinic staff by providing direction and staff guidance as needed. Requires knowledge in the principles and practice of gastroenterology clinical related services.

Under the direct supervision of the RN Clinic Manager, and within established policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions and as delegated by the GIC Providers:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Receives daily direction and collaborates with the RN Clinic Manager on department coverage needs and other daily tasks.

2. On a daily basis, provides backup for clinic staff or hands on assistance in times of peak workload or staffing shortages. Fills in as needed for PTO and staff call-ins.

3. Provides appropriate training and leadership for staff of tasks that are delegated by the GIC Providers.

4. Identifies and reports safety hazards and precautions to establish and maintain a safe work and patient care environment.

5. Ensures staff members are providing the highest quality service, in a cost effective manner, in all interactions with patients, physicians, staff, and outside vendors.

6. Acts as resource and educator to staff in regards to clinic services and referral sources.

7. Assists Medical Assistants with managing flow of patients through the clinic.

8. Acts as a first point of contact for basic electronic medical record (EMR), IT, and facility issues. Places work orders as appropriate.

9. Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies.

10. Provides and oversees appropriate training and satisfactory completion of competencies of clinic tests. When needed, after satisfactory completion of competency, performs patient testing in clinic, which may include, but not limited to Esophageal Manometry, pH Probe/ Impedance, Fecal Immunochemical Test, Hydrogen Breath Tests, H. pylori Urea Breath Test, Given Capsule Endoscopy, and SmartPill.

11. Provides coverage for all clinics on as needed basis for Supervisor and Manager PTO or call-ins.

12. Monitor providers’ desktops when providers are on PTO/CME.

13. Administers and reads Tuberculosis tests for GIC providers and employees as needed.

14. Manages inventory and submits monthly supply order to RN Clinic Manager to ensure that all needed supplies are always stocked and available.

15. Organizes time efficiently to optimize clinic efficiencies.

16. Maintains an identifiable work area that is neat, clean, and organized.

17. Responsible for daily employee and provider COVID screening.

18. All other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION: Certified Medical Assistant Program.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

• Two years of experience in Gastroenterology or related field, preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years being a Medical Assistant. Prefer GI experience, but not required.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have current Certified Medical Assistant.
• Must have a current Basic Life Support certificate.
• Minimum of 2 years supervisor experience required.
• Word processing and computer experience required.
• Proficient in English grammar and spelling with the ability to speak and write clearly and concisely.
• Must maintain a positive attitude.
• Must organize and manage time efficiently.
