Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Leads a multiple shift production facility. Provides leadership and development of Supervisory Staff and hourly production employees. Ensures efficient and effective use of labor, tools, and equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement in all production processes to improve safety, product quality, and standard costs.
  • Provide guidance to supervisor(s) and support personnel regarding the coordination of plant standards with overall company objectives.
  • Coordinate the production requirements with scheduling to meet customer demand requirements. Quickly responds to Inside Sales order status inquiries.
  • Manage production and production supplies inventory levels to optimize labor and equipment efficiencies.
  • Is an active participant in EHS; assists in JSAs, and takes appropriate action to minimize risk.
  • Responsible for coaching employees to be personally accountable for the proper execution of their responsibilities.
  • Devise hands on improvement processes to reduce scrap and defects while improving throughput and document SOP's and the implementation of Best Practices into the facility by utilizing engineering techniques such as, but not limited to, Process Flow Design, Time Study, Poke Yoke, etc.
  • Reviews, monitors and communicates daily/weekly/and monthly reporting of key performance indicators and the corresponding implications/action items.
  • Completes daily operations and long-term strategic plans and translates into measurable performance goals.
  • Mentor professional growth and development of employees of the Production and Maintenance Departments.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the appropriate levels of labor, the general conformance with employee rules, the issue of warnings, and the administration of disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Works closely with cross functional teams (i.e. Maintenance/Engineering, Quality, EHS, Sales etc.) to plan, implement, lead and/or execute actions that will assist in plant and organizational goals.
  • Back up for General Manager in his/her absence.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • AS degree in business or related technical degree; BS preferred
  • 5 to 8 years of operations experience required; steel industry preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years operations leadership and engaging team members to improve business results
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite
  • Team leadership skills and project management proficiency
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering processes, inventory management practices and customer service standards
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work as a member of and/or lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage and prioritize one's own time consistent with the needs of the business
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff and exhibit sound performance management skills
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and practices, ISO and/ or QS 9000 quality management systems
  • Articulate both written and spoken, and possess excellent listening skills

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Manual dexterity for use of computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed
  • Ability to speak, hear and interpret sounds and speech
  • Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours per day, occasionally 8 hours, occasionally position will require stooping, kneeling or crouching for less than 8 hours per day
  • Ability to carry up to 10 lbs.
  • Work environment is consistent with an office setting
  • Occasional exposure to loud noises
  • Must have the ability to travel by automobile and airplane
