GENERAL SUMMARY
Receptionist greets, instructs, directs, and schedules patients and visitors. Receptionist serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff. Receptionist provides staff support to the Physician in operating the practice computer system and phone / fax system.
HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Check in patients, verify insurance coverage and update demographics in computer system.
2. Scan all patient related information into the computer system.
3. Schedule appointments for the Physician.
4. Manage phone and answering machine services
5. Assist in scheduling follow-up appointments as patient checks-out.
6. Courteously answer telephone and direct calls to appropriate party or take accurate message.
7. Collect monies from patients when applicable.
8. Greet visitors and direct appropriately.
9. Communicate with co-workers in a professional manner.
10. Prepare copies of any and all office handouts.
11. Keep incoming faxes directed to appropriate recipients.
12. Maintain confidentiality, in all aspects of the position, to include HIPAA and other areas as outlined in the employee handbook.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. High School graduation or GED.
2. One year secretarial and medical billing experience.
3. Typing ability of 40 wpm. Work processing experience.
4. Must be familiar with CPT and ICD- 10CM codes, either through education or experience as demonstrated by past performance.
5. Knowledge of medical terminology and the insurance industry.
6. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.
7. Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine.
8. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.
9. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
10. Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
12. Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
13. Knowledge of Medicare.
14. Knowledge of governmental legal and regulatory provisos related to collection activities.
15. Skill with computer applications and use of calculator.
16. Ability to deal courteously with patients, co-workers, and others.
17. Ability to communicate clearly.
