GENERAL SUMMARY
The position is responsible for generating and sustaining supportive linkages for community programs and services provided/implemented by Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services, and for the operation of all functions, programs, and services of the East Central IL Area Health Education Center (AHEC).

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as the East Central Illinois AHEC Director and external representative with multiple community organizations, agencies and public officials including the UI College of Medicine –Rockford and Chicago, the federal AHEC office, the National AHEC Organization, and local, state and federal health and education organizations. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all entities.
2. Responsible for collaboration, strategic planning, and program development with the Illinois AHEC Network Program to increase awareness and knowledge of health careers to various student types, provide continuing education for health care professionals and facilitate health improvement initiatives to community members.
3. Identifies, researches, develops and prepares proposals and grant applications for submission to public and private grant agencies and foundations and other organizations to provide funding for new and/or continuing education opportunities and to enhance the facility’s mission.
4. Collaborates with GAHHS Executive Director of Geriatric Services and Quality Assurance in preparing annual operating and capital budgets, approves purchases and expenditures, and ensures that operations are consistent with approved budgets.
5. Provides procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records, compile required statistical and operating reports and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.
6. Monitors tracking and reporting of organizational outcomes through ongoing strategic planning and outcomes/related data collection.
7. Demonstrates ability to plan content and effectively deliver educational information to healthcare professionals, students, and community members.
8. Plans and develops public relations efforts to promote organization’s image and relations, and supervises staff in the development, production, and promotion of programs and services consistent with overall image.
9. Responsible for and ensures that all organization activities and operations, within the scope of this position, are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws governing business operations, in addition to adherence to standards and participation in the DNV-GL accreditation process.
10. Assists with providing oversight and management of the Education Assistant.
11. Coordinates and provides diabetes self-management education services through the clinics, hospital and community support group.
12. Plans, coordinates and implements the Wellness Program for GAHHS employees. Monitors program functionality and records results in conjunction with Human Resources and/or Employee Health.
13. Actively participates in continued professional growth by continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.
14. Attend conferences, committees and meetings relative to the position.
15. Demonstrates advanced level problem-solving skills, organizational skills and decision making abilities.
16. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with computer software systems, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
17. Maintains an environment that reflects pride and ownership and a willingness to care for the surroundings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Excellent, visual, hearing, speech/articulation abilities.
2. Manual dexterity to use computer to communicate, investigate and educate.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to Executive Director of Geriatric Services and Quality Assurance.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. BSN with 5 years healthcare/education experience required, with a current Illinois Nursing Licensure.
2. Prior proven experience and expertise in first line management.
3. Experience with teaching and managing time line projects.
4. Emotional stability to deal with prolonged stress of directing staff, coordinating activities and providing positive interaction during times of stress and constant change.
5. Excellent verbal and written skills for high level of communication with healthcare professionals, healthcare organizations, community agencies and public officials.
6. Strong critical thinking and decision making abilities.
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
CATEGORY 2 – MODERATE RISK
The job potentially exposes the employee to blood, body fluids and tissues. The Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Sitting at a desk, typing and use of computer, for long periods of time.
2. Occasional travel to meetings, educational offerings outside the facility
3. Occasionally works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to the environmental temperature, dust, dirt, and noise. Occasionally faces extremes in temperatures when working in community setting.
4. Works with community members and patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases and infections materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
