onDiem is seeking a Backend Software Engineer for our on-demand healthcare staffing platform. Snapshot of a Typical Week for this role:
- Collaborating with product and engineering leadership
- Contributing to the technical long-term roadmap
- Working with Ruby on Rails, VueJS, RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS, and much more.
- Working with a small, lean team where you will ask questions, implement quick and effective solutions, and see through the small details to create solutions.
You are not expected to have experience with all our technologies. We're looking for an experienced backend engineer that loves learning, loves technology, and is someone who can think creatively to solve complex problems. The desire to work collaboratively with other awesome people is a must.

Within the first 3 months, you will:
- Learn about our roadmap and all the exciting new projects you'll be working on
- Familiarize yourself with our codebase, products, team, SDLC.
- Provide engineering insights and help to scope out work based on the organization's priorities.
- Collaborate with product, leadership, and customer support, to support production services.
- Get multiple projects into production.
- Work on our data-gathering and analytics engines to formulate insights into business patterns.
- Recognize impediments to our efficiency as a team, propose and implement solutions.
- Participate in weekday, weekend, and occasional night on-call rotations to assist troubleshooting product operations, security operations, and urgent engineering issues.
- Provide insight into development best practices.
- Drive decisions around framework and tool choices
- Work autonomously as well as collaboratively to deliver projects.
What you will bring to onDiem
- Ability to work effectively on multiple projects with demanding deadlines in a supportive team environment.
- 4 years of professional software experience or BS in Computer Science or a related field
- Significant experience in Ruby on Rails
- Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions.
- Understanding of database principles and optimization techniques
- Experience testing your code.
- Excellent understanding of software engineering fundamentals and design patterns
- Experience providing technical and thought leadership for an engineering team and advising/mentoring more junior engineers.
- Experience reviewing other team members' code and providing technical feedback.
- Experience participating fully and constructively in the planning of your team's work.
- Experience evolving a team's best practices, and improving what is there.
- Ability to thrive in a fully remote organization.
